The band's name was inspired by a Walt Whitman poem, of which founder Nate Cook reveals, "At the time, I thought it was fun to have a literary reference as a band name. To some degree, now, I cringe at it because it’s a little too transparent. At the time, I liked that it was about embracing the whole self, a very holistic take where ugliness is as embraced as beauty. It still is an interesting concept to me." bit.ly
