#553 on listeners' Top Albums of the past 50 years! A.C. Newman stated, "I remember 'Letter From an Occupant' was a pretty belabored song. It ended up being almost minimal, but I remember there's so much shit we put on it. There's a psychedelic 12-string guitar solo, a backwards guitar, there's a kind of really cool synth that's in there but buried. At some point, you have to choose." -- tinyurl.com

Hi John & company, 21 years ago today, the woman who would eventually become my wife was on an operating table, minutes from death. Fortunately, life-saving surgery was successful, and eventually we met, dated, and got married. In honour of her re-birthday, could you please play something by the New Pornographers? Love, as always, from your Toronto-based amplifiers Matt & Michelle. -- Happy re-birthday, Michelle!! -- See a live performance by these Canadian stalwarts in the KEXP studio in January, 2020: www.youtube.com

"That was a strange thing," says New Pornographers singer, songwriter, and guitarist Carl Newman. "It's almost embarrassing to be referred to as a supergroup. I mean, none of us are famous... Neko is. But [not] the rest of us. They have the posters with our five pictures and our five names, and you look at it and you go, 'Who the fuck are those guys? I know Neko but... Carl Newman?! Who the fuck is that?'" "I insisted that we be called a supergroup," adds bassist and producer John Collins. John, Carl and I are sitting in the dank basement of a club in downtown New York. Carl Newman, who bears a passing resemblance to Alfred E., is nursing a bottle of aloe juice/gel, a vile substance that would no doubt be considered unfit for human consumption if not for the nutritional information printed on the side of the bottle. "It tastes like Band-Aids. But it's really good for my throat." bit.ly
