Dear Evie, My name is Andrea, and I am a proud amplifier in Chicago. I have always been a devoted music lover but my love of sound grew even deeper when I became blind five years ago. Having a visual disability can be an isolating experience. Feeling alone is something we have all gotten intimate with since March of 2020 when all of our worlds changed. I power KEXP because of the amazing and diverse music playing night and day. Just as important to me though is being able to turn KEXP on and know without a doubt that I will hear compassion, humor and love from any one of the incredible KEXP DJs. Thank you so much for being a source of companionship for all of us. We are not alone, and I feel that when listening with you. Would you please play I Only Have Eyes For You by The Flamingos? I believe that if my guide dog Lightyear could make a request he might write in for this one. He is my partner in the world and we are inseparable. This song feels like it captures my feelings of gratitude for him. Much love, -Andrea and Lightyear O’Donnell

Another building block of the Fugees song “Zealots,” the do wop group group the Flamingos “I Only Have Eyes for You,” was released in 1958 and has also been covered by Art Garfunkle. The Flamingos were said to have honed their vocals at the Church of God and Saints of Christ in Philadelphia, where there were no musical instruments, just voices.
