Sam Nicholson: “I wanted to write a simple song, just four quick chords and a slow realisation. I think I somehow stole the lyrical idea from Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” – that a song might be trapped inside just one thought. And in that one thought there might be everything. That’s how good that Kylie song is anyway.” -- Love this song? It's yours, for free. John selected it as a KEXP song of the Day: www.kexp.org

*REQUEST* Good morning John, I got a text this morning from an acquaintance about Quivers playing in Roanoke, VA tonight. I almost never go to shows anymore, but when a text says "John Richards played their song a lot during Covid", I realized that it was likely to be a show full of Morning Show folks, and damn it, I need to meet people in this town. So thank you and could you play something from Quivers for Stratton to thank him for getting an old man to go out at night? Thanks, Frank, an Amplifier from Roanoke ----- quiversss.bandcamp.com ---- Quivers is playing at the Alphaville in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow!

Hi John! Started the morning with that wonderful pre-panic attack throat tightening feeling (and unprompted, no less!), so taking it slow to ease through it. The music is helping, as always. Your show is helping. Music truly does heal, as you always say. Our trip to come visit is coming up fast, which is also helping to have something to look forward to. Might be too late to request anything, but some Quivers if it fits. Just needed to drop in and thank you for the show today and for the constant You Are Not Alones. You’re the best, -Megh The band performed this during a lovely set Live in the KEXP Studio in 2019 - youtu.be

From Ian: "My friend died of a drug overdose 2 weeks ago. I watched the Medical Examiners take his body away. This man collected friends with effortless love and generosity but knew instinctively how to challenge perspectives and opinions without ever questioning the depth of a friendship, which just opened up a realm of possibilities. A couple of days after, my son gave me his earbuds, told me he thought the music was uplifting. I just started crying. That’s how it goes. I function, I do what I can to help his friends and family. Those moments in between, I’m breathing, trying to work, listening to music. Quivers 'You’re not always on my mind'. Bowie’s 'Heroes'. Really doesn’t matter, because whatever’s playing just reaches in and hits exposed nerves. Music may heal in the long run, but first it breaks you, takes you to your rage, tosses you into the abyss you didn’t know existed until that friend died. I’ve had friends and family die before, and the older you get, the more it happens."

Hi John & Owen! It's Court's birthday tomorrow! We're currently at the Hope Lodge in NYC as he is undergoing proton therapy for his esophageal cancer that has now metastasized to his brain. Is there any way you could give him a birthday shoutout, some encouragement, and some Quivers (You're Not Always on My Mind)? This song has become his anthem for positivity during his cancer treatments, and I think he'd love to hear it! No worries if you can't get to this! Thanks so much, Amy PS. Thank you SO much to Henry as well. Henry's introductions (with dead air) for the Friday song always cheers up Court immensely. We've also even gone out on many Fridays (and maybe other days) to get chocolate cake with chocolate sprinkles. (I say chocolate cake should be a treatment covered by insurance!)

John, I think you should definitely milk the whole weekend for your birthday. You’ve certainly earned it. If you are able to fit in anything by Nation of Language or Quivers or The Goon Sax, that would make my attempt to milk my first day off in a while go so much better. So far, it’s just laying around listening to my favorite radio show on my favorite radio station. (Shameless flattery, I know, but it is true.) All the best for your celebrations this weekend and wishes for many more. --Andy, PDX -- John welcomed Quivers into the KEXP studio for a live performance back in 2019. It included this gorgeous song about memory, love, and resilience. You can watch the video here: youtu.be

Emily in Winthrop, WA writes in: After years of listening, KEXP and their DJs feel like friends, and a huge part of my life. I recently married my husband, a long time KEXP listener, and Friday Night, Wo Pop, and so many other shows were and are a part of our love story. I've cried and laughed to KEXP, experienced profound musical moments, and genuinely felt less alone. Thank you for everything. www.kexp.org
