A 1993 classic from Lords of the Underground out of Newark, New Jersey. DJ Lord Jazz and rappers Mr. Funke and Doitall formed the group in 1990 while the three were undergraduates at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. The trio released their debut album, 'Here Come the Lords' in 1993 with production handled by Marley Marl and K-Def. The album featured five charting singles, including their signature song "Chief Rocka." The song's hook and riff was sampled from John Coltrane's "Amen." They also sampled Reggie Stepper's 1990 "Drum Pan Sound" and "Rapper's Delight" from Sugarhill Gang.

Newark, New Jersey MCs Mr. Funke and DoItAll Dupré met DJ Lord Jazz (a native of Cleveland) when all three were undergraduates at Shaw University. In 1990, Redman served as DJ for DoItAll of Lords Of The Underground at Club Sensations. The group won several awards honoring them for producing the best rap albums of the early 90's. The Lords of the Underground (L.O.T.U.G.) is a hip-hop trio based in Newark, New Jersey. The group is composed of Dupré "DoItAll" Kelly, Al'Terik "Mr. Funke" Wardrick, and Bruce A. "DJ Lord Jazz" Colston.
