Following on from ‘Ghost Notes’ is this second album from Hiatus: ‘Parklands’; the title inspired by a south London block of flats. Those expecting a sub-bass assault will be disappointed as this album offers both less and more than the usual “wom” attacks. The two best tracks are very good: ‘We Can Be Ghosts Now’ weaves together trembling strings, throbbing bass and ambient washes to create a captivatingly pretty song, vocalist Shura’s softly sad tones pushed to the fore. ‘Cloud City’ has crisp clicking beats, an underlying techno pulse, and a yearning sadness; a moving electro lament to someone lost overseas. 2013. hiatusmusic.bandcamp.com/album/parklands‎
