Arny Margret is from the Westfjords, a sparsely populated and confined peninsula in north-western Iceland. Born and raised in a small town called Ísafjörður, she attended music school from the age of 6 learning to play the piano and gradually taught herself guitar. Through the few pieces she’s shared, a feeling of isolation resonates, seeping through her dulcet tones and delicate strumming. bit.ly This enchanting artist will perform again at KEXP on the evening of Thursday, October 6, as part of Reykjavik Calling 2022! From the Westfjords of Iceland, 20-year-old Arny Margret is currently recording her debut album at studio Hljóðriti in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. However, you can enjoy her sublime EP, intertwined, here: bit.ly She shares, "‘sometime’ is one of my favourite songs on the EP. I also wrote it in Denmark this winter. I like the line “Left my wallet on the table, hoping someone would remember me.” That line is where the song started, to feel forgotten or alone but hoping you aren’t. This song is so many things, and I hope people can connect the songs to themselves and their experiences, to find their own meaning to the songs. ‘sometime’ was recorded a bit differently. I played an electric guitar and added some synths and weird stuff. It starts a little quiet and builds up." bit.ly This enchanting artist will perform again at KEXP on the evening of Thursday, October 6, as part of Reykjavik Calling 2022! From the Westfjords of Iceland, Arny Margret's music and lyrics paint beautiful and yet painful images inspired by her personal experiences and surroundings. Through her music one can almost experience how it is to live in an isolated place, surrounded by tall mountains that block the sun for a few months every year. Her music can best be described as indie folk and although Arny Margret clearly has a sound of her own, she draws influence from the likes of Adrianne Lenker, Aldous Harding and fellow Icelander Ásgeir. Árný Margrét is a 20 year old singer-songwriter from the Westfjords of Iceland. Born and raised in a small town called Ísafjörður, she attended a music school from the age of six learning to play the piano. When she was 14 she got her first guitar and spent hours and days in her bedroom teaching herself to play it, slowly reaching the confidence to write her own music. Of this song, she shares, "I made this song while I was in Denmark. I was having unusually many dreams at the time and had a lot of time to listen to music, so I got inspired by so many things. The word “intertwined” had stuck with me for a while, and so I decided to use it. I then wrote the lyrics and forgot about them for a while. I finished the song completely when I came back to my hometown and made a demo recording. The studio recording is almost the same as the demo, but I added a bass and few harmonies. I like the song raw, I want the lyrics to speak." bit.ly This enchanting artist will perform again at KEXP on the evening of Thursday, October 6, as part of Reykjavik Calling 2022!
