3:51 AMBy request! "Lost In The Supermarket" was first conceived and written in an actual supermarket under the block of flats Joe Strummer was living in at the time with his girlfriend Gaby Salter. While it was too small for Strummer to literally get "lost in the supermarket," he did note in a 1999 interview that the song "occurred to me as I stumbled around dazed by the color and the lights." This would certainly explain the heavy themes of commercialism in the lyrics. Discussing the recording of the song, drummer Topper Headon mentioned in a 1991 interview that the night before, he saw the Blues guitarist Taj Mahal play. "His drummer played a lot of snare beats on the floor tom," said Headon. "When I went in the next day I thought that sounded good last night, I'll use it on this song." Although the multi-layered production on the record (including layered funk basslines from Paul Simonon) made the studio track a lush piece, it made the song difficult to play live, and only a handful of performances in exist from the few times they played it in 1983. tinyurl.comAbbie - Jan 26, 2025

8:54 AMThis one's for you, proud amplifier Christian! -- This great vocal performance is from Mick Jones. Topper Headon used a tom-tom drum on the song instead of a snare drum after seeing Taj Mahal's drummer doing the same thing in a concert the night before the recording - Sep 30, 2023

8:53 AMRequest for Amplifier Ryan in West Seattle who notes: "I work at a grocery store in my neighborhood. With the Rona going on every time I walk into work this song pops into my head. With us being considered essential, we have all been working extra hours while trying to put on a brave face ( even under the mask). We are trying to take every step to make sure everybody stays safe and healthy. I try to put it out of my mind but every time I go to work I know not only am I putting myself in danger as well as my wife." - Apr 10, 2020

12:39 PMEvery February 7th, music lovers worldwide come together to celebrate International Clash Day. What began as a tribute to The Clash’s music and legacy has evolved into a banner celebration of the issues and message they stood for. The Clash were unapologetically confrontational and champions of the oppressed, always striving for the possibility of a better world. That’s why in 2020 we’re using the holiday to Clash For Climate.
Tune in all day tomorrow as KEXPs addresses Clash for Climate. www.kexp.org - Jan 10, 2020
