8:12 AM"Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" was not just a remake of the Kenny Rogers’ First Edition hit, but more specifically a near re-play of Bettye Lavette’s 1968 version, and was notably the very first recording done at the Daptone House of Soul studio in 2002 . The band’s replay of Gladys Knight’s "Giving Up" was specifically requested but unused by a producer who was confident he needed it to sample for a beat on a Dr. Dre album. Just Dropped In… was Jones’ second posthumous release following the group’s most recent album, Soul of a Woman (2017). Jones passed away in 2016 from pancreatic cancer. bit.ly KEXP was blessed to have Sharon perform at the opening of their new home at the Seattle Center. 13:48 PM#48- Sharon Jones and the Dap-King's collection of incredible covers span Janet Jackson to Woodie Gurthrie. Pitchfork wrote that “Covers were always a significant part of Jones’ repertoire, a means of connecting her to the past and also linking the past to the present, and that gives Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Rendition Was In) the weight of a career retrospective.” Check out a performance they did at KEXP a few years back: youtu.be - Dec 8, 2020
