15:46 PM"We believe that our country has been hijacked by oil moguls, war profiteers, over fed corporations, and other assorted a-moral billionaires. We refuse to believe the stories that they feed us through corporate owned and run media sources in their efforts to keep us in a state of fear and hate. "We will resist the endemic apathy that allows them to use our hard earned tax dollars to fund illegal wars with dubious intent while here at home our education system is going bankrupt and our healthcare and social services are virtually non-existent. We oppose the recruitment of our brothers and sisters from the poorest neighborhoods in the country to fight a badly planned and managed war that will only benefit the extremely wealthy. "Though we are proud to be citizens of this country, we consider ourselves first and foremost to be citizens of the world. We believe that this land is our land, and that this land is your land." bit.ly Check out their fabulous KEXP sessions: tinyurl.comKevin Cole - May 4, 2025

6:27 AMSharon Jones covering Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is You Land." The year was 1939, and everywhere he wandered, “God Bless America” was playing on the radio. It was driving Guthrie nutty. In February 1940, Guthrie decided to fight music with music. In reaction to “God Bless America,” he worked up a simple song that tried to capture his love of the American landscape. At the same time, he wanted to point out that a lot of Americans weren’t feeling blessed at all. This is the story behind “This Land is Your Land.”: www.kennedy-center.org - Apr 12, 2025

8:12 AM"Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" was not just a remake of the Kenny Rogers’ First Edition hit, but more specifically a near re-play of Bettye Lavette’s 1968 version, and was notably the very first recording done at the Daptone House of Soul studio in 2002 . The band’s replay of Gladys Knight’s "Giving Up" was specifically requested but unused by a producer who was confident he needed it to sample for a beat on a Dr. Dre album. Just Dropped In… was Jones’ second posthumous release following the group’s most recent album, Soul of a Woman (2017). Jones passed away in 2016 from pancreatic cancer. bit.ly KEXP was blessed to have Sharon perform at the opening of their new home at the Seattle Center.
