SO Pitted are playing a KEXP in-studio on Saturday, April 30th at 6:30 PM (an Audioasis session). The band is also playing May 5th at The Crocodile, in support of Big Wild. The local band just released their debut record, Neo, even though it feels like they've been around for years. Must see live.
Oh, Ty Segall. Evidently done with rocking Chicago local news broadcasts and the KEXP studios for a bit, Mr. Segall will be touring Europe for the next few months, before eventually returning to the PNW to play Pickathon. Here's Ty's 2015 set: blog.kexp.org.
Dearly departed local group Wishbeard put out a few EPs and assorted singles before they played their last show in late 2014. It was at Vera, and it was so good. This track comes from the band's 2013 EP It's All Gonna Break. Stream it on their Bandcamp: wishbeard.bandcamp.com.
The insanely talented Will Toledo & crew will be playing The Neptune Theater tomorrow (3/26), in support of Thao with the Get Down Stay Down. New record, Teens of Denial, will be released in late spring. Check out the video for this track: www.npr.org.
New, sort of hilarious track from Parquet Courts, off their forthcoming record Human Performance out April 8th. It'll be the band's first full length record on Rough Trade records. They played tracks off the new album LIVE on KEXP the other day: www.youtube.com.
David Gedge seems like the coolest guy. This hardly controversial opinion was reinforced by Gedge's recent stripped down performance at KEXP, playing tracks of a forthcoming Wedding Present record: www.youtube.com.
Daughter's new record, Not To Disappear, came out back in January on 4AD. Back before the band had a full-length out, they played multiple KEXP in-studios. Here's a live video of the band's session on The Morning Show: blog.kexp.org.
Cat Power, the project of Chan Marshall, hasn't released an album since 2012's beautiful Sun release. No word on a follow-up to the record as of right now. Let's hope it comes soon. This track comes off that Sun record, which took many years for Marshall to complete.
This beautiful Cocteau Twins track going out to a listener who just lost a friend to cancer. Our thoughts go out to her. Heaven or Las Vegas was Cocteau Twins' sixth record, and last release with 4AD-- 4AD mastermind Ivo Watts-Russell dropped the band after HoLV, saying his relationship with the band had soured.
Cool new record from HÆLOS, put out by Matador records just last week. The band will be playing Barboza on April 12th, which is clearly the smallest venue the band will ever play in Seattle. Earlier this year, they played LIVE on KEXP on The Midday Show: www.youtube.com.
The Cave Singers will be on tour throughout the US for the next few months. The band's most recent album, Banshee, came out back in mid-February. It is available for streaming on their Bandcamp. Also, limited edition vinyl still available! thecavesingers.bandcamp.com.
Really exciting new comp coming out on 4AD, featuring many amazing artists (including Angel Olsen, Courtney Barnett, Perfume Genius, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, etc.) covering tracks by the Grateful Dead. Its running time is six hours. This compilations is a benefit for the Red Hot Organization, which raises money for AIDS research.
Today's KEXP Song of the Day! This track comes from the new Fruit Bats album, Absolute Loser, which will be released on May 15th. This is Eric D. Johnson's first album since retiring the Fruit Bats moniker in 2013: blog.kexp.org.
Gun Outfit is currently working on a new record, despite seemingly just putting out their last one-- the quite acclaimed Dream All Over came out in October 2015. That's an impressive amount of creative energy. The band also released a limited edition 12" last week, titled Two Way Player.
This track comes from the debut release of Woven Hand, which came out back in 2002. The Denver, CO band is led by former 16 Horsepower vocalist David Eugene Edwards. The band's most recent record, Refractory Obdurate, was met with quite a lot of acclaim back in 2014.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be playing Sasquatch this year. The Melbourne, Australia band will release a new album in late April, titled Nonagon Infinity. The band has been quite prolific as of late. This forthcoming record will be their eighth full-length since their 2012 formation.

Lovely new music from Frankie Cosmos! Frankie Cosmos is the moniker of the quite talented Greta Kline. She will be playing The Vera Project on April 20th, supported by Eskimeaux & Yowler. Greta is also all over that new Porches record-- she's the longtime girlfriend of Porches mastermind Aaron Maine.
Some Kathleen Hanna for your 11AM hour. Le Tigre's so amazing debut record came out back in 1999 on Mr. Lady Records. Hanna's newest project, a continuation of her post-Bikini Kill Julie Ruin moniker, put out their debut record, Run Fast, back in 2013. She has now fully recovered from late-stage lyme disease, which had made difficult the possibility of recording music or touring for many years.
New music from M. Ward! NPR's Robin Hilton says it's his best record in 10 years, which is a bold proclamation. Matt & co. played tracks from this new record when they stopped by the KEXP studios earlier this year. Sounded quite good: blog.kexp.org.
Oh, Marc Bolan. Possibly the best dressed man in human history? Thanks to Youtube, we are able to watch Bolan's final performance before his untimely death in a motorcycle accident-- Bolan had just recorded the sixth episode of Bolan Show, featuring David Bowie, before the accident: www.youtube.com.
LIVE on KEXP on Friday, April 8th at 12PM. That's the release date of the Dandy's newest album, Distortland, which comes out on Dine Alone Records. The band's tenth record was recorded on a tape recorder in lead singer Courtney Taylor-Taylor's basement, which is pretty cool.
This track comes from a Kinks collection which gathered the bands' BBC Sessions recorded between 1964 and 1977. That came out in 2001. This track first appeared on the classic Kinks record titled Something Else by the Kinks. It is a rare kinks track written by Dave Davies.
Mr. Mould, ever the friend of KEXP, will be playing the KEXP New Home Grand Opening Ceremony on April 16th, along with Strand of Oaks, Deep Sea Diver, Hey Marseilles, Samaris, and other guests to be announced. Bob will also be coming back through town with a full band playing The Showbox on May 10th. Mike Krol, who released a very good album last year, will be opening.
Some fIREHOSE going out in honor of Gary Shandling, who passed away yesterday at the age of 66. Shandling was best known for The Larry Sanders Show, and It's Gary Shandling's Show, both which were considered highly influential programs. This comes from a fIREHOSE EP from 1992, Live Totem Pole.
Great new music from the hyper talented Ms. Jessica Dobson. Dobson & Deep Sea Diver will also be playing KEXP's New Home Grand Opening on April 16th. Jessica & co. just finished a large tour of the US, finishing up with a sold-out show at Neumo's. The band's new album, Secrets, came out in mid-February.
The Strokes attractiveness hierarchy: Julian, Nick, Nikolai, Fabrizio, Albert. Controversial rankings. Nick could be #1. This track comes from The Strokes' 2005 record First Impressions of Earth. Didn't get a lot of love when it came out. The Strokes are reportedly working on a new record to be released this year.
Athens, GA band Mothers will play The Vera Project on March 28th. The group were listed as a band to watch by Stereogum in October of last year. New album, When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired, came out in late February on Grand Jury Records.
So exciting new music from Dan Boeckner's new project Operators. The band will be in Seattle, playing The Sunset on April 4th. The new album, Blue Wave, will finally be released on April 1st. Also, Wolf Parade reunion's coming up, so Boeckner's gonna be pretty busy for the foreseeable future.
The War on Drugs is one of the countless bands on that forthcoming Dessner bro. curated Grateful Dead tribute comp. The band's cover was released yesterday as part of the ensuing promo for the album- pitchfork.com.
Shearwater LIVE on KEXP! Shearwater play tonight at the Crocodile in Seattle, and tomorrow night (3/26) from Mississippi Studios in Portland.
Shearwater's new record Jet Plane and Oxbow was released in late January of this year. Lead singer Jonathan Meiburg said in the interview with Cheryl Waters that though the record is a protest record of sorts, it has grown rapidly more prescient since its release.
Jonathan Meiburg said that Jet Plane and Oxbow took longer than any other Shearwater LP to write and record-- Meiburg said the past two years on and off went towards the conception of the record. They recorded the long EP Fellow Travelers in the middle of the writing/recording process, then got back to work following a tour.
Shearwater finishing up their amazing live KEXP session with a cover of David Bowie's classic track "Boys Keep Swinging." Meiburg said during the interview that he listened to Bowie's Lodger LP while emotionally recovering from a trip to South America. The album's sense of anxiety and disorientation comforted him.
Dubious cover art on this one. Catchy track though. Built to Spill's latest LP, Untethered Moon, came out last year on Warner Bros. Built to Spill played on KEXP last year amidst the chaos of Paul's Boutique- blog.kexp.org.
Wild Nothing will be LIVE on KEXP on Monday, April 25th at 1PM. The band will be playing that night at The Crocodile. Wild Nothing's latest album, Life of Pause, came out in mid-February. Received generally positive reviews.
This comes from Black Angels' 2013 record Indigo Meadow. Not only is The Black Angels' name taken from The Velvet Underground, their logo also incorporates German chanteuse Nico's face. That's devotion.
New Black Mountain record sounds pretty upbeat for the band. A little less doom ridden. Black Mountain has a slew of tour dates planned for the next few months. No Seattle date as of right now though. They're playing Spokane, WA at The Bartlett if you want to get over there.
New Bleached record sounding quite good. The band will be in town, playing Barboza on April 29th. Welcome the Worms is the second album for the sister duo. Reports out of SXSW sounded excellent, so make sure to catch them live.
Alvvays will be playing The Moore Theater on April 21st, in support of Courtney Barnett. The band's self-titled debut record came out in mid-2014. No new of a follow-up as of right now, but maybe they'll play some new tracks live? We can hope.
Zachary Cole Smith seems like he lives a charmed existence-- in between hanging out with Sky Ferreira, modeling, and doing ecstasy, he found time to record and write a new DIIV record, titled Is The Is Are. Evidently he didn't spend all that time on the title. Rivals Yo La Tengo's Stuff Like That There.
Porches are playing tonight at The Vera Project with Alex G. Unknown if it's full band Porches action or just Aaron Maine and a guitar, but either way it'll be must see. Maine released a new record, Pool, back in early February on Domino.
New album from Kyle Craft, Dolls of Highland, is out April 29th on Sub Pop. This is the artist's debut LP. He has two forthcoming shows in Seattle, one at Barboza on April 1st (with Porter Ray and Cullen Omori), and the Sunset Tavern on April 28th.
Oh, Speedy Ortiz. Speedy is playing this year's Sasquatch Music Festival. They're also touring with the great Philadelphia band Hop Along, including a show at Warsaw in Brooklyn. They also had an amazing KEXP session for their last record: blog.kexp.org.
The late, great Jason Molina. This track comes from Molina's arguable finest moment, 2003's Songs: Ohia record The Magnolia Electric Co. Jason's gorgeous last record, Josephine, was released back in 2009 under the Magnolia Electric Company moniker.
