Seattle two-piece (brothers!) whose power melodies and driving pop are the perfect soundtrack to an all-night party where you a) get drunk and pick a fight with your best friends, b) continue drinking, but apologize profusely, c) end the night hugging and/or screaming "I LOVE YOU" to everyone you know, then d) wake up wearing nothing but your old Weezer shirt.

This is the lead single from "Go," the debut solo album by Icelandic musician Jónsi Birgisson, frontman of the band Sigur Rós. "Go" originally started as an acoustic record, and ended up with a much fuller sound. Birgisson explained: "It started as an instrumental and it scaled up into something so much bigger - very colourful and multi-layered, like some kind of monster! A lot of that happened when we went to the studio to record. I think that is where the craziness started to happen."
The album features strings arranged by Antony and the Johnsons and Grizzly Bear composer Nico Muhly. Birgisson said: "He did all the arrangements - the string, wind and brass arrangements. He also plays nearly all of the piano on the album, so he had a lot of input. After the strings and all of that came in, it was much more colourful, more lively. I'm really happy about that."

The song is a commentary on a generation lost to disillusion and apathy. Vocalist Matt Berninger explained that it is about "where you can't deal with the reality of what's really going on, so let's just pretend that the world's full of bluebirds and ice skating."
An instrumental version of the song was used for a Barack Obama campaign video during his 2008 United States presidential campaign. "We were a little bewildered, because the song is not patriotic by any means," Berninger said. By discarding the vocals, the producers transformed the song into an optimistic advert full of smiling people holding "hope" and "change" signs.
