Watch a great live performance by London-based artist Heartworms in the KEXP studio from March 2024 (hosted by Cheryl): www.youtube.com When studying Production and Performance at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, Orme, who records under the name Heartworms, said, “That was a very male-concentrated course...and me being me, I didn’t let it get to me, but none of [my classmates] would let me be in their band, and they would say that I wouldn’t last long on the course. At the end of the two years, I won the college’s Student of the Year award, and I look at it sometimes and cherish it.” - www.nme.com

"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" has six verses but no chorus. The song's lyrics describe a vision of the narrator's experiences in Juarez, Mexico, where he encounters poverty, sickness, despair, available women, indifferent authorities, alcohol and drugs before finally deciding to return to New York City. The song took more attempts to perfect than the other songs recorded that day; it wasn't until take 16 that Dylan and his band captured on tape the version that was released on the album. The backing musicians on the take that was used on Highway 61 Revisited were Mike Bloomfield on electric guitar, Al Kooper on Hohner Cembalet; a type of electro-mechanical piano, Paul Griffin on piano, Harvey Brooks on bass guitar and Bobby Gregg on drums.

Singer/songwriter Heather Nova has built a cult following around the UK thanks to her infectious, emotionally raw live shows. 'Blow', a nine-song set recorded in London at the rise of her career in the early nineties, illustrates her vibrant nature as a performer. She's far more aggressive in a live setting, wild in making her passion come alive. "Sugar" takes things further. Nova's dark vocalic cries on "Sugar" tango with haunting orchestration for something seductive and distressing. www.allmusic.com

Stereogum even got in on our Live on KEXP session: "Former the Cure member Lol Tolhurst, former Siouxsie And The Banshees drummer Budgie, and veteran producer Jacknife Lee teamed up for an album called Los Angeles last year. Tolhurst and Budgie headed out on the road to promote it a few months back, a voyage that brought them to the KEXP studios in Seattle. In a session recorded on June 4 and published today, with Liam Hayden on bass, they performed a cover of the early Cure single “A Forest.” Tolhurst has a songwriting credit on “A Forest,” so maybe “cover” is not exactly the right word here. The point is these gothy post-punk veterans performed a gothy post-punk classic in a historically rainy West Coast locale, and you can watch it below." www.stereogum.com
