Starting out with Death Cab for Cutie! "Soul Meets Body" was written by frontman Ben Gibbard, and produced by guitarist Chris Walla. The song was recorded at Long View Farm, a farmstead in North Brookfield, Massachusetts. Walla summarized the song's message: "It's a declaration of desire over circumstance. It means, 'Here's where I am and here's what I want to be and how do I bridge those two things.' I think it's a beautiful articulation of love, friendships and relationships and everything you do over the course of the day." Gibbard recalled laboring over the song, which he wrote for his girlfriend at the time, and follow-up single "Crooked Teeth": "We spent all this time trying to get "Soul Meets Body" and "Crooked Teeth" just right to make sure we were putting our best foot forward," he said. bit.ly

Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie is one-half of Postal Service alongside producer Dntel aka Jimmy Tamborello. The project was birthed from the success of the song "(This Is) The Dream Of Evan and Chan" featured on Dntel's 2001 album 'Life Is Full Of Possibilities." "Such Great Heights" was voted the 27th best song of the 2000's by Rolling Stone.

This song off Dntel's 2007 album 'Dumb Luck' features vocals from Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. The album also features guest vocals from Lali Puna, Arthur & Yu, Jenny Lewis, Conor Obers, Mia Doi Todd, and others. (underrated album!)

Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z "Crazy In Love" is the debut single of Beyoncé as a solo artist, featured on her first album, "Dangerously In Love." The song features rapper/now-husband Jay-Z whom Beyoncé was privately dating at the time of its release. Beyoncé told the writer Dennis Hensley about this tune. She explained: "The song talks about how, when you're falling in love, you do things that are out of character and you don't really care because you're just open. The song came from me actually looking crazy one day in the studio." Beyoncé added: "I said, 'I'm lookin' crazy right now,' and Rich Harrison, the producer, was like, 'That's the song!'"

Grace Jones provides additional vocals on the chorus and refrain, and up-and-coming Nigerian artist Tems croons the interlude. Bringing it back to a local artist! Soundgarden! This one was written by Chris Cornell. Guitarist Kim Thayil on the song's guitar solo: "A blues-type thing, exactly. And after I recorded it, the rest of the band loved it, and the assistant engineer loved it, but I kept feeling like it was too stiff. I was listening to it, going, 'You know, it doesn't have my trademark finger vibrato', like you can hear on Ultramega OK and Badmotorfinger. I wasn't quite satisfied with it, but because everyone else really enjoyed it, eventually I let it go... I finally had to relax and trust the guys that it was cool." bit.ly

Connecting Krist Novoselic of Nirvana to Nirvana, of course! As the legend goes, Kurt Cobain stopped by KCMU (what would become KEXP) after the release of Nirvana’s first 7-inch single, Love Buzz / Big Cheese. He personally handed over a copy to the station then sat in his car with his radio tuned in and waited to hear his song. When he didn’t hear it, he called in and requested the song himself. Sinéad O'Connor released this Nirvana cover months after Kurt Cobain's death. She told Cuepoint in 2014 that Cobain, "represented a massive amount of people who were really kind of invisible and unheard, who had a lot of pain, a lot of stuff that needed to be heard."

"Special Cases" featured Sinéad O'Connor on guest vocals. Massive Attack, who collaborated with Sinéad O'Connor on their 2003 album '100th Window', penned a tribute of their own: “Devastated. How do you eulogise someone that you never knew well, but were blessed to have the honour of working with,” they wrote. “Honestly. To bear witness to her voice, intimately in the studio. On the road every single person stopped—dropped their tools during soundcheck. The fire in her eyes made you understand that her activism was a soulful reflex & not a political gesture.”

Tricky is one of the founding member of Massive Attack "I don't think the record company really knew what Tricky did," said engineer Mark Saunders. "He asked them to put together a small studio in his house in Kilburn [North London], and they did. This had an Akai S1000, an Atari 1040 with Logic, an Alesis ADAT, an AKG C3000 microphone, a Behringer Composer compressor and a Mackie 1604 desk. "Still, Island thought they'd signed a guy who was kind of a DJ/programmer, and they told me it was just an engineering gig." Karmacoma was released as a third and final single from Massive Attack's second album Protection in 1995. This is the Portishead version! It contains rap vocals from band members 3D and Tricky.
