Rest in Peace, Jeremiah Green, who passed on December 31st, age 45.
This is the thirteenth track from Modest Mouse's debut album, released on April 16th, 1996. Modest Mouse's first two albums were re-released in 2014 by Isaac Brock's Glacial Pace imprint. Calling them "best new reissue," Pitchfork said "they are a reminder of the group's insular, visionary oddness.": bit.ly

KEXP DJ Marco Collins shared the following late in the day on December 31st: “It is with a very heavy heart that the Green and Namatame families announce the passing of their husband, father, son and brother, Jeremiah Green. Jeremiah, drummer and founding member of the Issaquah based band Modest Mouse, lost his courageous battle with cancer on December 31. He went peacefully in his sleep. Jeremiah was a light to so many. At this time the family is requesting privacy. More information will be forthcoming including a Celebration of Life for friends and fans in the coming months. Jeremiah’s loved ones would like to thank everyone for their continued well wishes and support".
RIP, Jeremiah Green.

Grunge owes a huge debt to Mother Love Bone, who was instrumental in the pioneering of the late 80’s Seattle sound. The death of the bands frontman Andrew Wood only days before their album release, crushed the band's trajectory into superstardom.

Sounds, the now defunct UK music paper, gave this album a 5-star review but said, "Miles Copeland's IRS label pick the carrion of their former label mates even cleaner by releasing a watered down version of the... Off the Bone singles collection that was released in the UK. The music's still great even if the scheming behind Bad Music for Bad People stinks of decay and corruption." bit.ly

Whale was a Swedish Rock band, formed in the early 90's by Henrik Schyffert, Cia Berg, and Gordon Cyrus. This song reached #15 on the UK charts in 1995.
Someone wrote, "I remember hearing this song and wondering if Bjork and the Beastie Boys got into a car accident together." See the award-winning video: www.youtube.com.
This supergroup collaboration features two Southern-born singer-songwriters with impressive track records: Alabama-born Katie Crutchfield and Texas native Jess Williamson. The two artists left their childhood homes and now live in other parts of the country. Crutchfield renamed herself Waxahatchee after moving in tribute to her Cotton State home. However, she titled her most recent solo record, 'Saint Cloud', after a city in Minnesota. Williamson took off from the Lone Star state to the City of Angels in search of new inspiration. She called her newest release 'Sorceress' in reference to her otherworldly place in the universe. In terms of sales and critical reception, these albums were the most successful of their careers.
The two talented musicians met a few years ago (via Kevin Morby) and made vague plans to collaborate. The meeting finally happened, and the resulting album, I Walked With You a Ways, plays to these artists’ strengths as writers and performers. bit.ly

We're sad to learn of the death this past weekend of Modest Mouse co-founder, and drummer Jeremiah Green.
This song was written the first day Modest Mouse began collaborating with Johnny Marr. The guitarist later recalled to Uncut magazine: "On the first night we (Marr and Isaac Brock) just set up two amps opposite each other and just got louder and louder and improvised. I just started playing 'Dashboard,' which I'd been playing a few weeks before and forgotten about. And he instantly started improvising the lyrics, which knocked me out. To see someone produce those lyrics just off the top of his head is amazing: I've never seen it done in such a way."

'Chutes Too Narrow' was recorded in the basement of James Mercer's former home, located in a particularly rough neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. Although recording in the basement was less than pleasant, the band found it "cheaper than a real studio," with Mercer noting that "it only costs sixty bucks to buy deadbolts for the doors." Near the end of the recording process, the band was robbed of the computer they recorded on. "So the master files are now in some crack addict's basement," Mercer told Rolling Stone in 2003. bit.ly
