"Supernova" is from the second album 'Whip-Smart' released in 1994. Phair described 'Whip-Smart' as particularly difficult to make because at the time she didn't have many songs that weren't about the music industry, which displeased her manager. In total, 'Whip-Smart' took about one month to record. The album was recorded in two distinct sessions: the first in August 1993 in Chicago, and the second in February 1994 in the Bahamas. bit.ly Here is the video for "Supernova": youtu.be

Waxahatchee performed live in the KEXP Gathering Space in September 2021, opening their set with "Can’t Do Much." youtu.be Katie of Waxahatchee wrote: “This was the first song I wrote in this batch of songs, and I’ve been performing it live for almost two years. It’s meant to be an extremely unsentimental love song, a love song with a strong dose of reality. It was written early on in a relationship, where the feelings were super intense, but also fear or apprehension were sort of keeping me from totally relaxing in it yet. Sort of like ‘it’s annoying that I love you so much’—totally unromantic, which sort of makes it really romantic to me.” bit.ly waxahatchee.bandcamp.com

This propulsive song features Peaches on vocals ("as the inner voice of teenage testosterone," Michael Stipe said). The numbers are staggering. But each of those numbers represents someone. Someone we knew, someone we needed, someone we loved. “When You Lose Someone” is about trying to console a grieving loved one and realizing there’s nothing anyone can really say or do to ease the pain. All you can do is be there for them, show them that they can count on your love and support. This was one of the last few songs we recorded for the new album and once again features the dynamic powerhouse trio of Vanessa Bryan, Dasha Chadwick and Nic Jackson on background vocals.
