Speaking on the single, Josie states: “‘Stormy Skies (Diamonds)’ is about having someone who loves you no matter your past, but also questioning how they can bear to stay sometimes when it gets deep. For me, that kind of love is a safety blanket and something that I fear losing the most. I wrote this with my friend Ines (songwriter) and a producer called Halfrhymes in his home studio. Singer Hamilton Leithauser said the song originated in a jam session when the band were "just screwin' around." The band's drummer Matt Barrick instigated the track by playing a fast drum pattern. The band then quickly built this foundation into the full track, Leithauser said "we threw some chords on it, I wrote the words in five minutes, and then we all started slammin'!"

“Lilacs,” the second single, is a folk song at heart. In a country speak-sing, she gestures toward passing time and bad dreams, dying flowers and dust: the kind of visions that have consumed songwriters with acoustic guitars forever. The arrangement is built from similar staples, buoyed by the rushing organ of Bob Dylan in the ’60s. This atmosphere, with its patience and light, adds a sense of freedom to Crutchfield’s delivery and allows her to find new wisdom in old worries. In the final moments, she repeats a line—“And the lilacs drank the water”—and enunciates the last word differently each time, eventually rising to the trilling falsetto that once accompanied her starkest, quietest thoughts. Only now, she sounds untethered to the past, newly centered, like she’s got enough time to wander and enjoy the scenery along the way.

The newest song from Snail Mail aka 22-year-old Lindsey Jordan. Her 2nd full length record of the same name is out November 5.
Lindsey Jordan wrote Valentine' in 2019 and 2020 and recorded it with help from producer Brad Cook.
“I wanted to take as much time as possible with this record to make sure I was happy with every detail before unleashing it unto y’all,” she said in a statement. “Referring to the process as the deepest level of catharsis and therapy I have ever experienced would be a huge understatement. 'Valentine' is my child!”
It comes with a deliciously violent video directed by Josh Coll in which Jordan’s jealousy gets the best of her while she’s decked out in an elegant outfit.
“It was so rewarding concocting this video alongside the brilliant Josh Coll! Watching a few perverse images in my head metamorphose into this gorgeous storyline and eventually into a tangible visual was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Jordan said. “We connected over a mutual interest in the intersection between terror and devastating beauty. But also Tim and Eric and watered down ginger ale, which I had to drink a shocking amount of in those drink-bombing scenes.”

Harriette Pilbeam, the Australian musician and Artist To Watch who makes sparkling dream-pop music under the name Hatchie, has signed to Secretly Canadian. And to celebrate, she’s sharing a new song called “This Enchanted”.
“‘This Enchanted’ encapsulates everything I wanted to do moving forward from my first album,” Pilbeam says. “I started writing it with Jorge and Joe in February 2020 and completed it from afar in lockdown later in the year. We had been talking about making something dancey but shoegaze. It’s one of the more lighthearted, lyrically vague songs of my new recordings about falling in love; it’s not a perfect relationship, but you’re enthralled by one another and it’s an easy love.”
