The Weather Stations is a project of Toronto-based artist Tamara Linderman. "Co-produced with Marcus Paquin, Ignorance reimagines Lindeman’s place within her own music and the scope of her project as a whole. Every moment feels lush and welcoming, designed to reach as many people as possible. Ironically, Lindeman wrote many of the songs alone with just an old keyboard, playing along to its rudimentary drum loops." pitchfork.com

Dan Snaith is a Canadian electronic musician who records under the name of Caribou. A few years prior to the recording of the album, Snaith's wife gave him swimming lessons as a Christmas present, prompting him to take it up as a new hobby. This partially led to the eventual ideology behind 'Swim', which is awash with aquatic sonics. Snaith told Chart Attack that the lessons blended into his growing fixation with fluidity in music and the ability to achieve that with his army of electronic instruments. He explained: "I wanted to make dance music where all the elements would sound like water and have these waves that flow around in the mix. When I was making 'Andorra,' I was listening to a lot of music by [producer] James Holden. His music would flow and disintegrate unexpectedly; it breathes very well." bit.ly

A just released single from London-based band Wolf Alice. “It’s about the arrogance of humans,” said Rowsell. “This album is for other people,” said Rowsell. “Sometimes you hear a song and it makes you feel better, or you hear a song and it makes you feel seen. I remember feeling blue about something, and thinking, ‘I wonder what songs I can listen to that will be about what I’m feeling right now’.” She continued: “It was almost as if I was desperate to feel better about something, and I would go down any path to feel not alone in something, or to understand it more. And I’ve never really done that before intentionally, I’d never really sought it out.”

Listener request from Ben in Seattle. Thomas Dolby's real name is Thomas Robertson. The stage name Thomas Dolby originated from a nickname that he picked up in the early 1970s, when he was "always messing around with keyboards and tapes." His friends nicknamed him "Dolby," from the name of the audio noise-reduction process of Dolby Laboratories used for audio recording and playback. He adopted the stage name "Thomas Dolby" to avoid confusion with British singer Tom Robinson, who was popular when he began his career.

It might have been a little dream like a kiss from a lover or a big one like the dream of peace that Dr. King, John Lennon, and so many others have had for humanity,” June told CMT.com. You are NOT alone! #musicheals #wheremusicmatters #youarenotalone www.kexp.org Jeff Tweedy wrote this song for Mavis Staples. He said: "That came out of a conversation with Mavis, where I told her my theory that all music basically says the same thing, which is: you're not alone. Even a kid in his room listening to the most abrasive punk rock or heavy metal, what they're really getting out of it is, 'We're in this with you.' Somewhere down deep there's a communication happening that's sustaining. So after we talked, I thought that'd be a good song to try and write for this record." pitchfork.com

SZA was born Solána Imani Rowe in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up the daughter of an executive producer at CNN (her father) and an AT&T executive (her mother) in the affluent suburb of Maplewood, New Jersey. Though her parents practiced different religions — her father is Muslim and her mother a Christian — she was raised Muslim and attended a Muslim prep school. She wasn’t allowed to watch TV or listen to the radio; her music world was limited to whatever her father enjoyed, namely jazz classics from Billie Holiday and Miles Davis. This song is about two long-deceased historical women that members of Alt-J have crushes on. The band told NPR's All Things Considered: "As we were finishing writing our second album, This Is All Yours, we came up with a quick jam which we luckily captured on one of our phones. This turned into 'Deadcrush', which is a word we made up to describe someone who is no longer alive that you fancy. Thus the first verse is about Lee Miller, Joe's deadcrush, the second about Anne Boleyn, Gus's." It features vocals from Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice. Miss Grit is the solo project of Margaret Sohn. “Grow Up To” opens with a heavily distorted guitar as the singer muses, “When I fall dead I’ll still crave the next place all the same / And in the morning I will wait till it’s late for my fate, resuscitate.” Sohn said in a statement about the song’s ending chant, “Grow up to, grow up to, grow up to is my ongoing obsession with what’s next. The lack of content with the present leads to the chaos and collapse of this song.” Sohn’s 'Impostor' EP centers around the singer’s experience growing up half-Korean in the Michigan suburbs, and the impostor syndrome that followed as she came of age while studying music technology at New York University. This latest project is self-produced by Sohn, and aims to work through these feelings of self-doubt. www.pastemagazine.com

Masekela, is often cited as the father of South African jazz and was a renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist, though he was best known as a trumpeter. Letta Mbulu is a South African singer whose voice you’ve heard even if you’ve never heard her name; she most famously provided the Swahili vocals on Michael Jackson’s “Liberian Girl.” She fled Apartheid South Africa in the 1960s and ended up working with legends like David Axelrod (“Pula Yetla” is a personal favorite) and Quincy Jones.

"‘I’m In Your Mind Fuzz’ is the group’s fifth record – their first for UK label Heavenly Recordings – and it impressively steers a path between repetitive motorik and dreamy melody. It’s split roughly into three parts: a four-song intro, a wild mid-section and an intimate conclusion. In the intro, three of the four tracks are named after variations of the album’s title (‘I’m In Your Mind’, ‘I’m Not In Your Mind’, ‘I’m In Your Mind Fuzz’) and whoosh into each other in a surge of exaggerated riffs and soloing..."www.nme.com
