Nigeria. Uwaifo of Nigeria is famous for his joromi music, a style of high-life music he popularised. In the folklore of ancient Bini (Benin-City or Benin Empire), Joromi was a warrior (wrestler) who battled and defeated all possible rivals on earth. With no rivals on earth to engage in battle, he decided to battle with people from the Afterworld.
Mali. Malian from Timbuktu, Baba Sissoko is a master of the talking drum or tamani. He is also a griot or jeli, a West African historian, storyteller, praise singer, poet and/or musician.
London. Tim is a DJ and producer constantly looking for a new angle, groove and feel in his dance music. He also runs the Marketing Music label and makes up half of duo It’s A Fine Line.
Cincinnati/Sudan. From Cincinnati, Ohio, this self-taught violinist became interested in playing style after listening to Northeast African music and began using her iPad to mix electronic beats with her violin.
Cuba. Celia Cruz is considered the Queen of Salsa. She hails form Cuba. She was known for her powerful voice and her rhythm-centric musical style. She was the most popular Latin artist of the 20th century, gaining twenty-three gold albums during her career. US President Bill Clinton awarded her the National Medal of Arts in 1994.
Mali. This trio hails from Southern Mali and works to bring modern twists to "ancient and neglected repertoires" of the Malian tradition. They each come from a long lineage of griots (hereditary musicians). The band members are: Hawa Kassé Mady Diabate (vocalist), Lassana Diabaté (musical director, balafon) andMamadou Kouyaté (bass ngoni)

"You can't become a griot, you're born a griot," bandleader Lassana Diabaté said. Not all griots are musicians -- some are pastors or do other work, but all pass down the history embedded in griot tradition.
A griot is a West African historian, storyteller, praise singer, poet and/or musician. The griot is a repository of oral tradition and is often seen as a societal leader due to his or her traditional position as an advisor to royal personages.
Cuba/NYC Mongo is the master of Afro-Cuban jazz percussion, particularly well known for playing the Quinto drum. He was in influential figure in the budding of New York's latin jazz scene when he moved there in the 1950s.

Fela Ransome-Kuti became infamous, an outlaw musician who declared himself president of his own "Kalakuta Republic", a sprawling compound in the suburbs of Lagos that housed his recording studio and offered sanctuary to the dispossessed. At his club, the Shrine, his band played until dawn while dozens of singers and dancers writhed and glittered amid drifts of igbo smoke.
Estonia. Trad.Attack! is an Estonian folk band. The band consists of Sandra Vabarna (torupill, vocals), Jalmar Vabarna (guitar), and Tõnu Tubli (percussion). They perform in Estonian. Trad.Attack!’s goal is to perform in every country in the world.
Palestine. Dam is... well, not afraid to cross lines! This hip-hop trio (Arabic citizens of Israel who are historically Palestinian) take a Flight-of-the-Conchords-esque approach to talking about tensions in the area with this track
Tunisia. Ghalia Benali is a Tunisian singer, songwriter, writer and graphic designer. Her music has been noted for its attribution to multiple genres and defining contemporary Arabic music . Benali’s southern Tunisian upbringing and fascination with Middle Eastern and Arab legendary artists is palpable in her music style. Her voice has been dubbed as multicultural and polymorphic.

Mali. The title track of this duo's most recent album speaks of the confusion and chaos of a region in tumult, possibly inspired by a military coup in the north of their native Mali several years ago. The two, who are blind, have been making music together and married for about 30 years.
Canada. Based in Ottawa, Canada this group of six grabbed attention after their song "Mista President" landed at number nine in Gilles Peterson's top 30.

Tanzania. Msafiri Zawose is one among the prominent contemporary Gogo musicians. Gogo is a Bantu language spoken by the Gogo people of Dodoma Region in Tanzania.

India. Bandish Projekt was formed in 1998 by Mayur Narvekar, Udyan Sagar, and Mehirr Nath Choppra. Bandish is an Indian classical composition.
Pacific Island. This group of musicians from indigenous cultures all over the Pacific is thriving with energy. The group is led by main vocalist and singer Opetaia Foa'i and includes percussionists and singers along with dancers. They've performed at the likes of the Olympics opening in Beijing.
Czech Republic. Words fail me in the face of Clarinet Factory. Get ready for clarinet music (and choral music?) as you've never heard it before. This track is so new we can't even figure out what the album is called. (scratch that, we found it!)
