The track was included on the band’s 1988 LP, Blue Bell Knoll, which was the band’s first LP to receive wide distribution in America. As a result, for any Americans, it was their first exposure to Cocteau Twins in all of their otherworldly, shimmering glory. Outkast used elements of rock in many of their songs, and this one contains a ripping guitar solo that Andre 3000 says was influenced by Jimi Hendrix (Andre portrayed Hendrix in the 2014 biopic Jimi: All Is by My Side). The solo was played by one of their band's guitarists - either David Whild or Donnie Mathis - but the record company suggested they bring in Kid Rock to play it, hoping to add star power to the project. Andre nixed the idea because he didn't want the song to be overshadowed by a celebrity name.
"We wanted to come back with something modern-sounding," explains Tracey Thorn of the first new track from Everything But the Girl in some 24 years. And, while "Nothing Left to Lose" is indebted to a strain of dance music that partly defined 1999's Temperamental.

Squid's new album, "Monolith," will be released June 9. The lyrics for this song are based on a dream Ollie Judge had about classic Rococo painting "The Swing" by Jean-Honoré Fragonard: "In my dream, I was in the painting but it was flooded and everything was floating away," he says.

From Seattle's own Black Tones (and KEXP's own Eva Walker!) The ballad is based on a true story of an 89-year-old man shooting and killing his wife. Eva shared: "Even more unfortunate is that the protagonist in this story was someone very near and dear to my heart."
The band worked with Pearl Jam's Mike McCready on the eerie ballad, with McCready praising Walker's distinct playing style. "Eva and The Black Tones dig deep into the blues on 'Blue Matrimony.' I was honored to be asked to help with the arrangement. Eva has a really cool style with the guitar - she's very honest and soulful."
