The only memory Bowie (who was heavily into cocaine at the time) had of making the album is of ordering lead guitarist Earl Slick to play and repeat a Chuck Berry riff over the opening bars of this track. "I have only flashes of making it," a saner Bowie said much later. "I have serious problems about that year or two. I can't remember how I felt; I have no emotional geography."

The title is a reference to the Stations of the Cross, a series of 14 images depicting the crucifixion of Jesus. The song is in four movements and the lyrics reflect Bowie's preoccupations with the influential occultist Aleister Crowley, the Qabalah, and Gnosticism.

David Bowie was approached to play himself in "Flight Of The Conchords," but turned down the offer as it was too similar to his cameo on "Extras." Jemaine Clement of the comedy duo has written a lengthy piece explaining his love of Bowie and how he and partner Bret McKenzie came to write ‘Bowie’s In Space’, a song they performed live as a stage act and then used in their HBO series years later.: www.nme.com

Congo-born, Minneapolis-based artist Miloe (Bobby Kabeya) brought on Chicago-ite Jamila Woods and Cameroon-born/New York-based indie rocker Vagabon for a reimagining of a track from Miloe's second EP. Kabeya said of the collaboration:
“I’ve admired both Vagabon and Jamila’s work and artistry for a long time. It’s such a trip to have stems from musicians I look up to on my laptop in my room. I got to hear a bit about Jamila’s journey with learning guitar recently and connected with Laetitia over our appreciation for Congolese and African musicians like Fally Ipupa. This is a reimagined version of "Winona" from an alternate reality, which is a fusion with influences from Congolese Rumba, indie pop and afro-beat.”

Amber Arcades is the moniker of Dutch musician Annelotte de Graaf. Having written and recorded songs in a solo setting for some time, she flew out to New York in 2015 and teamed up with producer Ben Greenberg to record her debut album ‘Fading Lines.’The ‘Cannonball’ EP followed in 2017. In 2018 she released her second album ‘European Heatbreak.'
