Evie's sitting in for John Richards all week on The Morning Show! "Sometimes, though rarely, a pop band’s instrumental efforts aren’t filler or segues, but pivotal to their album or even their identity. “Firesuite” was that way for Doves, with disembodied, wordless vocals calling out like a silhouette starting to come into focus out of the ether." This is the only Pixies song to use a string section and the first to use outside musicians: two cellists (Arthur Fiacco and Ann Rorich) and two violinists (Karen Karlsrud and Corine Metter). -- Regarding the number part of the song, Frank Black said in an interview: "It's a reference from what I understand to be Hebrew numerology, and I don't know a lot about it or any of it really. I just remember someone telling me of the supposed fact that in the Hebrew language, especially in the Bible, you can find lots of references to man in the 5th and Satan in the 6th and God in the 7th. I didn't go to the library and figure it out."

‘I Am The Walrus’ was John Lennon’s final contribution for 1967 and sees the songwriter at his surrealistic best writing lyrics such as “sitting on a cornflake”, “semolina pilchards” and of course “goo goo g'joob”. John had decided to write his next song with such confusing lyrics after becoming amused at hearing that a class in his former High School were analyzing Beatles lyrics as part of their studies. The final part of the song came together when John’s friend and former member of the Quarrymen, Pete Shotton visited and John asked him to recall a nonsensical playground nursery rhyme that they used to recite: “Yellow matter custard, green slop pie, All mixed together with a dead dog's eye, Slap it on a butty, ten foot thick, Then wash it all down with a cup of cold sick.”: www.mentalfloss.com

The Walkmen, whose last shows were in 2013, have announced they're getting back together to play a couple hometown NYC shows at Webster Hall on April 26 & 27. Singer Hamilton Leithauser says: "Back in 2013, an unnamed Walkmen band member (Peter Bauer) announced to the Washington Post that we were going on an 'extreme hiatus.' I assumed that meant there would be a lot of monster energy drinks and maybe that red-headed snowboarder guy would be hanging around a lot…but none of that actually happened. Instead, in the ensuing years we’ve all worked on a ton of different projects in a ton of different places. Recently, someone sent us a clip of us playing at Irving Plaza from 2003, and it just looked very exciting. So, we’ve decided we’d like to play together again... See you soon." www.brooklynvegan.com
