Formed in L.A.'s hipster-friendly Silver Lake area in 2001, Dengue Fever traced their roots to organist Ethan Holtzman's 1997 trip to Cambodia with a friend. That friend contracted the tropical disease (transmitted via mosquito) that later gave the band its name, and it also introduced Holtzman to the sound of '60s-era Cambodian rock, which still dominated radios and jukeboxes around the country. When Holtzman returned to the States, he introduced his brother Zac -- a core member of alt-country eccentrics Dieselhed -- to the cheap cassettes he'd brought back. Romeo Void was an American rock band from California, formed in 1979. The band was started at the San Francisco Art Institute by vocalist Debora Iyall and bassist Frank Zincavage. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 422,624 copies in its first week, which broke a record for first-week sales by a female artist. "'Every Ghetto,Every City' is essentially a 5+ minute mini autobiography of Lauryn Hill. She talks about the fun, inspiration and later difficulties she lived with growing up in the hood [South Orange, NJ] during late 80’s/early 90’s. Lyrically and musically,it shares many similarities to Stevie Wonder’s 70’s approach to funk-with its slow burning Clavinet based groove. In the 40's, World War Two veteran Ambrose Campbell and his West African Rhythm Brothers, were enticing London music lovers with sweet palm wine sounds. The following decade, a young Fela Kuti (and his Koola Lobitos outfit with drummer Tony Allen), would jam with Campbell, and the seeds for his global Afrobeat revolution were sown. The band's name [Kokoroko] is an Orobo - a Nigerian tribe and language - word meaning 'be strong'. Sonically living up to their name, Kokoroko are an all star band featuring leading lights from the London jazz community. Powered by seismic horn section (Maurice Grey, saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi, trombonist Richie Seivewright), guitar (Oscar Jerome), keys (Yohan Kebede), drums (Ayo Salawu) and percussion (Onome Edgeworth); Kokoroko are on a mission to fashion new languages using the medium of afrobeat.

This new release from Portland band The Shivas is part of Suicide Squeeze’s singles series, "Pinks and Purples." -- “No one can remember when we started working on this song, but I remember it being a riff we always played a lot,” the band’s singer and guitar player, Jared Molyneux, said. “It took a long time to figure out what to do with this idea, and even longer after that to figure out how to put the various pieces of this song together. “For as long as it took for ‘Doom Revolver’ to make it out into the world, I think it is arriving at the perfect time,” added drummer and singer Kristin Leonard. “Sit down, turn the volume all the way up, close your eyes, and hit play.”

"Lady (Hear Me Tonight)" is a song by French house duo Modjo, written and performed by vocalist Yann Destagnol and producer Romain Tranchart.
