“I seem to get bolder and more honest with each day. The albums are my diary for sure and a reflection of the world around me at the time. Musically, it’s a way to document our tastes as a band. After Shulamith I feel all the more confident to do whatever we want and make music for ourselves first and foremost. If we make music that we are excited about playing, then that love and sincerity should do the work for us..." -- bit.ly Cheryl Waters hosted Poliça Live in the KEXP Studio in March 2016: youtu.be

By request from Serena -- 'Great show Evie, as always. I've been down the rabbit hole of Miike Snow since Troy played Animal the other day. Can you play something from him? I love when you discover a new/old artist you should have known all along. ' This track off the third album from the Swedish band is based off a real person. Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow told Notion in 2016 that this album, "kicked off with the first time anyone’s really ever broken my heart and it was a long process of recovery, much longer than I thought it would be."

"Keeping the idea of the supergroup alive, Sweden's Amason collected the talents of some of Sweden's finest artists of the early 2000s to create some very slick indie pop that's pitched somewhere between the soft rock melancholy of Fleetwood Mac and the precise sound of Peter Bjorn and John. Comprised of Miike Snow's Pontus Winnberg on keys, Dungen's Gustav Ejstes on guitar, keys, and vocals, bassist Petter Winnberg, drummer Nils Törnqvist of Little Majorette, and vocalist Amanda Bergman of Hajen and Idiot Wind, the group formed out of the INGRID music collective.'" goo.gl

'You might be wondering, as I did, who is this Douaa anyway? Douaa’s daughter, Reem Mitten, appears in the liner notes to explain that her mother was born to a singer and a composer and sang for friends up into the mid-1980s. “Although music was my mother‘s passion, her career did not exceed more than a few songs,” Reem continues. “It had been a short and sweet experience but her life took a different direction. She went on to be a stewardess for Emirates Airline, having many different and amazing adventures. Shortly after a couple years she went on to meet my father Alan, an amazing Irishman. They moved to London, where they still reside, and had four children, me included.”' habibifunkrecords.bandcamp.com

For Claire in NYC! This song is about making a deal with God to swap lives with another person. Bush explained in a 1985 interview: "It's about a relationship between a man and a woman. They love each other very much, and the power of the relationship is something that gets in the way. It creates insecurities. It's saying if the man could be the woman and the woman the man, if they could make a deal with God, to change places, that they'd understand what it's like to be the other person and perhaps it would clear up misunderstandings. You know, all the little problems; there would be no problem." www.songfacts.com

Nation of Language are playing The Crocodile on Thursday, October 14th: bit.ly "Can I ever get past the wounds of love?" As frontman Ian Devaney explains: “Wounds Of Love” is a song about getting caught in a mental feedback loop when a relationship ends. It’s an endless inner argument — wanting to move on defiantly, but feeling utterly lost about how to do it when the other person has informed so much about how you see yourself. For every bit of progress there’s just as much retreating, and eventually it seems like this back-and-forth becomes the new root of your identity — still tied to the same person, just without them actually being there. Read the full statement from Ian Devaney here: bit.ly 'A Way Forward' is out November 5th. nationoflanguage.bandcamp.com

Happy birthday to Roland Orzabal, born on this date in 1961! Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, he met Curt Smith in Bath, Somerset; they formed a mod group named Graduate, then went on to form Tears for Fears in 1981, directly inspired by the writings of American psychologist Arthur Janov, author of 'The Primal Scream', in which he detailed his theory that the neuroses and baggage that adults carry with them are caused by repressed traumatic events from childhood

In my mind's eye One little boy, one little man -- funny how time flies Happy birthday to Roland Orzabal! This was developed in 1983 and performed multiple times in live sets, sandwiched between two-part of the track "Broken". This segue inspired its placement on the album, with a studio recording of "Broken" followed by "Head Over Heels", transitioning to a live reprise of "Broken". In the liner notes for the album, Roland Orzbal wrote: "[Head over Heels] is basically a romantic love song and one of the most simple tracks that Tears for Fears have ever recorded. It is a romance song that goes a bit perverse at the end."
