Sting recorded the demo for this song in Dublin in the summer of 1980, releasing it on 'Zenyatta Mondatta' later that fall.
The band members have often expressed disappointment over the album, going so far as to re-record two songs during a brief, unsuccessful reunion in 1986. Drummer Stewart Copeland said about the time pressures: "We had bitten off more than we could chew. ... we finished the album at 4 a.m. on the day we were starting our next world tour. We went to bed for a few hours and then traveled down to Belgium for the first gig. It was cutting it very fine."

Pedro the Lion surprise released a new album today titled 'Havasu.' It's the band's first studio LP in 3 years. Featuring 10 tracks, the album finds singer and guitarist David Bazan revisiting former hometowns in which he's lived and their influences on his life. Lake Havasu is a community of winding hillside roads, launched in the 1960s alongside a brick-for-brick rebuild of the original London Bridge.

Brand new Sky Cries Mary album out today!
Legendary Seattle Psych rock band, Sky Cries Mary, will release their 13th studio album, “Wandering In the Vastness” on Trail Records.
This collection of songs came together as a synthesis of feeling, thought, meditation, and experience during the global pandemic. So much isolation, loneliness, fear…How can you make an album when you can’t even be in the same room together?
“I write from a lot of different instruments”, muses founding member Ben Ireland, “The pandemic gave us a lot of time to focus and expand our musicianship. Members were definitely encouraged to take risks!”

Lead singer Ben Bridwell opened up about “Lights” in a statement:
"I was with my family at an indoor water park hotel. On my last day there, I was walking down the hall and this guy was like, “Ben?” It happened to be this dude that was producing the film that I was writing the score for. We met up in the family-friendly hotel bar which gets closed down by us at 10:00, at which point we then ended up in the parking lot. We get a little loose — nothing too crazy, but we ended up dodging security guards. Our story then goes on to when I’m back home and someone had broken into my house. With the cops that ended up being around, there were more people turning the lights on us, one way or another. At the parking lot of the hotel, it was the security guards turning them on to check on us out there and at home, it was the lights going on and off with these cops. I’m drawing metaphors here and there from these two stories. Also, things were going poorly for me at that time and that kind of peppers the entire track."

Singer Neil Tennant has said that he wrote the lyrics purging his emotions in a moment of frustration and anger, but it wasn't something serious: "People took it really seriously; the song was written in about 15 minutes, and was intended as a camp joke and it wasn’t something I consciously took very seriously."

Listen carefully under the guitar and you'll hear a banjo line, which Andrew Farriss added using a sampler.
INXS guitarist/horn player Kirk Pengilly played the saxophone part, and yes, Michael Hutchence yells "trumpet!" just before it plays. This was an in-joke: The group's other guitarist, Tim Farriss, wanted to play trumpet on the track, but Pengilly overruled him and got his sax solo.
Pseudo Saint is a music project created by solo musician, Savannah Rico.
The project has been quietly taking shape from bedroom to bedroom within Washington state since 2012.

In a recent Rolling Stone feature, singer Adrianne Lenker said the track was inspired by personal experiences, including an intense four-day hospitalization in Brooklyn in 2020. Prior to its release, the band has been performing it on tour since last September, and it’s become a fan favorite.
“I’ve been getting notes that the music has been helping people love and accept themselves in dark times, and to me, that right there is what I want to do,” Lenker told RS. “I don’t want to get to a certain level in my career or be seen as this or that. I just want people to come back to themselves and be able to accept, love or forgive themselves more fully. Last year, John Reis (Hot Snakes / Rocket From The Crypt / Drive Like Jehu), Rob Crow (Pinback), Atom Willard (Against Me!), and Jordan Clark (Mrs. Magician) revealed their new band together called PLOSIVS and shared their debut single, “Hit The Breaks.” Now they’re back with news of a whole self-titled debut album, which they recorded in October 2020 at the same time they did that first single.
“To me, an obvious universal psychological protocol should be to remember there are as many perspectives to any event or situation as there are sentient beings affected by the experience, as opposed to the apocryphal notion of ‘two sides to every story,'” Crow said in a press statement. “For a person to claim an absolute based on the one experience and perspective they can ever truly know seems irrational.”

The lyrics were inspired by Bono's trip to Central America in 1985 with Amnesty International. He visited El Salvador, where he stayed with a group of guerillas in the middle of the mountains in the north of the country, which is where he got the idea for this song. "Mothers Of The Disappeared" also came out of that trip.

Pixies lead singer Black Francis wrote "Caribou" for the group's debut album, though he confessed to NME he has "absolutely no memory of writing that song."
But that doesn't mean he dislikes it; in fact, it's one of his favorites. He likes playing it so much that even when it's not on a setlist, he'll swap out a different song so he can sneak it in.

“Six Words” is a sprawling love ballad that opens with elegant piano and evolves into an even-keeled rhythm as the band croons in compelling harmony. Frontman Guy Garvey expanded on the track in a statement:
"I can’t remember the exact genesis of the track, but it is definitely one of Craig’s. In some ways it’s familiar territory lyrically, it has similar sentiments to “Mirrorball” but it draws heavily on my teenage years: the bottle green in the song is the colour of my school uniform and the six lanes is the traffic on the road to school in Prestwich. Though that six lanes line was something I originally wrote back in the early elbow days when I sat in The Cornerhouse people watching so it’s a double reminisce and a return to my love of writing about love.
The musical revelation came when we heard the backing singers that now end the track. We had this pyramid of voices making something incredible that reminded me of the early classic Disney soundtracks. It was so powerful that we knew we had to throw the spotlight onto them so that is why they end the track."

There are a mash-up of influences on this song, which is typical of Def Leppard, whose frontman Joe Elliott told Songfacts, "Everything I've ever listened to seeps in."
Joe can't always identify the specific influences, but the first record he bought was "Sugar, Sugar," which was a huge hit for the cartoon band The Archies in 1969. Near the end of that song, there is a line that goes "Pour a little sugar on me, baby," which Elliott says was at least subconscious inspiration for this song.
The lyrics started out as phonetic sounds to fit the music, which they refined later into actual words. Joe says that this was done in the style of "Bang A Gong (Get It On)" by T. Rex, which contains vaguely lascivious lyrics that don't make any sense ("a hubcap, diamond star halo"?) but sound great.

The Bangles covered Simon & Garfunkel's "A Hazy Shade of Winter" for the 'Less Than Zero' soundtrack. The track has also been covered by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and Ray Toro for Way's Netflix series 'The Umbrella Academy'.
