Destroyer will play The Neptune Theatre on Saturday, April 23. bit.ly Dan Bejar has announced a new Destroyer album, 'LABYRINTHITIS,' releasing March 25. -- "I had an idea of writing a couple lines on the idea of ‘mystery’ and ‘goin nowhere,’ as they are two of my favourite themes,” bandleader Dan Bejar explained in a statement. “That and the Grim Reaper and being pursued by some silent, unnamable thing that constantly lurks one foot to the left of you. Especially as the world’s decay becomes increasingly less abstract. Also wanted to write on the romance of terror. The song ‘Tintoretto, It’s for You’ speaks to all these things, oddly enough so does the video.”: www.youtube.com

Big Country was originally formed in 1981 by guitar-playing founder members Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson, both natives of the band’s hometown Dunfermline in Scotland. Initially driven by a shared vision of widescreen guitar melody, harmony and lyric, the classic Big Country sound was further enhanced later that summer by the arrival of drummer Mark Brzezicki and bass player Tony Butler. www.bigcountry.co.uk Sadly, Stuart Adamson took his own life in 2001. The surviving members of the band did an interview a few years back: bit.ly. Midnight Oil performed this in front of a worldwide audience of billions, (including then Prime Minister John Howard, who had claimed it as his favorite Midnight Oil song) at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The whole band were dressed in black, with the words "sorry" printed conspicuously on their clothes. This was a reference to the Prime Minister's refusal to apologize, on behalf of Australia, to the Aboriginal Australians for the way they have been treated over the last 200 years.

"Music for the Masses" was released on in 1987! Back in 2017, Albumism published a fabulous retrospective on "Music for the Masses" for its 30th anniversary. 'The beauty of the album is that 30 years after its release it still feels modern and as a whole entity offers the listener a cauldron of emotions that strike at the core of all of our existence. There is a subtle power at work here. A rawness and honesty that draws you in. With 'Music For The Masses', Depeche Mode stepped up their level of artistry—thanks in no short measure to the increasing influence of Alan Wilder—and reached for something more.' tinyurl.com We're celebrating 50 years of KEXP with an in-depth look at each year in our history! As Prince became a Jehovah's Witness, he began to change the lyrics when performing this song live, reflecting his newer beliefs that Jesus died on "stauros" (a single stake, rather than a two-beamed cross), and the song became known as "The Christ," causing some controversy amongst Prince's online fanbase.

Frontman James Smith said of the new release, ""Pour Another" zooms in on the post-party conversations many hedonists will be all too familiar with. It leaves the impending doom of daily life in a world on fire at the door, at that point in the night when you don't want to let go of the moment you're in, when everything is perfect and everyone is your new best friend. Those moments fade, because nothing stays as it was. You’re woken with a bang and you have to face the truth."

CHAI kick off the new year with brand new single “WHOLE”. The new single is confirmed as the theme song for Japan’s public broadcaster NHK’s new romantic comedy drama series “Koi-senuFutari”. The lyrics, inspired by the TV series’ storyline featuring an aromantic/asexual couple, touches on the theme of universal and unconditional love. It speaks on the desire to accept one another’s differences, to love one another as a “whole”, and the wish to “turn this anger into something beautiful” –a message that reverts back to CHAI’s philosophy as an artist. Yuuki, who penned the lyrics, says of this song: “Sometimes, no one empathizes with you. But is that really a bad thing? I don’t want to make my thing, or someone else’s thing, something to be ashamed of. Because our ‘differences’ may not be our enemies. I wish we could love each other’s little differences and little similarities entirely –that’s the hope behind this song.”

The Orb on how this famous track came to be: "A fan who worked in a record shop in Birmingham sent me a tape with a note saying it would be perfect for the Orb. On one side, Pat Metheny was playing Steve Reich’s 'Electric Counterpoint'. On the other was an interview with Rickie Lee Jones. Someone asked her: “So what were the skies like when you were young?” and she launched into a trippy monologue about stars and clouds. I sampled it and put it over a basic pulse. That was the start of Little Fluffy Clouds." bit.ly The cover to this album features an image of the famous Battersea Power Station, seen on many other album covers, superimposed with clouds taken from space by the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983.

"Girls on Film" was released in 1981. This song is best known for its video, which was the first extended video ever made and was quite racy. In an interview on the band's Greatest Hits DVD collection, Simon Le Bon says that the controversy over the song's notoriously raunchy music video eclipsed the song's message of fashion model exploitation. The video was directed by Lol Creme and Kevin Godley, who were the leaders of the group 10cc and also recorded as Godley & Creme. bit.ly Watch the video here: youtu.be
