The vocals on this track are the vocals of Gladys Knight from the 1972 song "Neither One of Us". "Koze has long said that he aims for the combination of euphoria and melancholy in all his music, and here he nails it. Despite Knight’s sorrowful tone, the rolling disco groove has the giddy uplift of vintage Daft Punk. Heard loud, “Pick Up” reveals itself to be a low-key anthem, a perfect picture of bittersweet simplicity." pitchfork.com Check out this extended disco version of 'Pick Up' on Beatport: bit.ly

"Lead singer and songwriter Isaac Brock was inspired to write the song, an ode to looking at the bright side at all costs, by a surfeit of bad news. 'I was just kind of fed up with how bad shit had been going, and how dark everything was, with bad news coming from everywhere,' Brock said in 2004. 'I just want to feel good for a day.' The verses present a litany of bad-gets-worse situations in the narrator’s life, but he steamrolls through them with an optimism bordering on the psychotic. The funny thing is that, by the time that indefatigable refrain of 'And we’ll all float on OK,' burrows into your brain, you might find yourself getting carried away in its sunny wisdom.": americansongwriter.com

The West Yorkshire teen quartet said, “‘Burn the Heather’ is a song deeply rooted in where we come from. The lyrics are our interpretation of some of the darker aspects of where we live, and our personal reaction to them. Musically, ‘Burn the Heather’ is intended to be an adrenaline shot to the brain." - bit.ly

Wayne Coyne told NME in 2013 that he considers this song to be his proudest moment. He explained: "A part of you makes it and you don't really think that much of it. Then someone comes up and says, 'we used that song at my mother's funeral'. You can say it's just a dumb song, or you can say, 'I understand.'"

"Move on Up" was a tribute of sorts to Mayfield's Chicago neighbors, The Staple Singers. "Curtis lived around the corner from us," Mavis Staples told Mojo magazine. "He was like my baby brother. He'd drop by and we'd eat together and he'd talk politics with Pops. One day he came to Pops and said 'I want to write songs like The Staple Singers do, and Pops said 'Curtis man, you're a writer, a poet! Write some of those songs!' The first one Curtis wrote was 'Move On Up' and he came round and played it to us and Pops said, 'That's my boy!'" --- The great Curtis Mayfield is in the Rock Hall twice, both as a solo artist and with The Impressions: www.rockhall.com
