Reflective of the experiences of depression and anxiety, this third single from The 1975 appears on their fourth album 'Notes On A Conditional Form.'
The core of We Will Always Love You is built on sampling, but it is less of a plunderphonics record than their previous material. Rober Chater explained that making sample-based music is time consuming. According to Chater, Since I Left You had 900 samples, and We Will Always Love You "still contains hundreds and hundreds samples[...] fragmented across the record."
The group set out to use samples as the basis of songs, but add instrumentation themselves to more easily and quickly build out the sound they were looking to achieve. The Avalanches brought in musician and friend Andrew Szekeres to help push production along in this manner. They also brought in guest vocalists because it takes less time than searching for samples for months. Chater still compared finding the right vocalist like searching for a sample. bit.ly

While addressing the inspiration behind his compositions with Variety Magazine, The Weeknd shared, "This one I did originally with [co-writer/co-producer] Oscar [Holter], and then Max [Martin] finished it with me. I wrote this song very fast and it was the last song on the record that I finished. When I made this song I was nervous because I felt like I went overboard with the ambition — I’m ambitious, but I thought maybe this is too much.
"It wasn’t until 'Blinding Lights' [became one of the biggest hits of Weeknd’s career] that I knew, a) I could finish this album and b) I could put this song on it. And sometimes it just comes down to the melody. This was the fastest melody that I ever made — I went into a room for 20 minutes and wrote the entire song, and then Max produced it." bit.ly
In 1981, ZE Records asked each of its artists to record a Christmas song for a Christmas compilation album, A Christmas Record. Songwriter Chris Butler wrote the song in August that year, assembling it from assorted unused riffs. He finished the lyrics in a taxi cab on the way to the recording studio. The lyrics came from Butler's hatred of Christmas: "Everybody I knew in New York was running around like a bunch of fiends. It wasn't about joy. It was something to cope with."
“Désolé,” which means “sorry” in French, features guest vocals from Malian actress and singer-songwriter, Fatoumata Diawara
