"The upbeat instrumental is balanced by a tender vocal performance from Chicago’s Phoelix, whose lyrics deftly tackle systemic racism and police brutality: “They told me put my hands up behind my head,” he sings during the hook. “I think they got the wrong one/I’m sick and tired of runnin’/I’ve been searching where the love went.” Dinner Party is a new supergroup made up of Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder. Their self-titled debut album is out now!
Local guy! What a voice!
The Psychedelic Furs started playing this song in 2001, a year after they re-formed. (They actually began in 1977, but took a long break in the1990's.) It became a regular part of their concert repertoire and a fan favorite, but the song wasn't released until 2020 when they included it on "Made Of Rain," their first album since 1991. By this time, The Psychedelic Furs were a six-piece that had been together since 2009.: www.timescolonist.com

AllMusic said "the 2013 entry in their extensive catalog, 'Floating Coffin', is a weird one. Not because it is experimental, psychedelic, or full of lo-fi wildness; any one of those things would be par for the course. What makes this record weird is that there isn't really anything weird about it. From beginning to end it's a hard-rocking, heavy album with heavy drums, heavy guitars, and a knockout punch that not many of their songs have had before. bit.ly

Vocalist Grian Chatten noted about this new single: "I had a few cans before I recorded the vocals, I wanted it to sound like I was playing the role of an embittered barfly and feel like the soundtrack of someone swaying themselves home after a cold night out - full of principles but surrounded by nobody." This is new music from brothers A.K. and Jai Paul’s Paul Institute. A. K. said,“I’m really happy we’re releasing new music with Paul Institute this summer. It’s been a while coming and the last couple of years have been perilous at times for PI, particularly because of a legal fight that set us back. So besides it being sick music, to return with such a strong set of releases feels like a vindication of our rights as artists too.”

That familiar voice on “Reflecting Light,” is the former Terrence Trent D'Arby, who you may recall from his 80's hit "Wishing Well." The song also samples folk singer Vashti Bunyan sixties single "Reflecting Light."
'By Any Means' addresses "the history of lies, pain and death that have led to this [Black Lives Matter] moment, while embracing the strength found within the movement."
