This nu-jazz trio founded in 1990, pioneered the genre now known as acid jazz and was supported by Gilles Peterson. The group was made up of Japanese born musicians Tadashi Yabe and Toshio Matsuu and Frenchman Raphael Sebbag. Toshio left the group in 2002. Garmarna is a Swedish folk rock band that mainly plays modern interpretations of old Scandinavian ballads. The band purposefully contrasts their heavier, dark sound with the more delicate vocals of Emma Härdelin.

Some of the song's lyrics had been ad-libbed by Beck in concert before the song's release. For an example, on January 3, 1998, during the beginning of a performance of "Where It's At,"
Beck shouted, "I'm talking about mixing business!"

The band say the ten-year gap [since their last release] was unintentional, but it was the "collective trauma" of the early days of the pandemic, coupled with the fear of never being able to tour again, that pushed them back into the studio. The results are eight tender tracks that see the band stretching their creative limits and scaling down their propensity for bombast. They may no longer rebel by means of beer-drenched live sets or dangerous five-foot falls from the stage, but by creating from inspiration instead of expectation, they’ve managed to stage a revolt of sorts. bit.ly

The latest signee to Partisan Records—the label home to IDLES and Fontaines D.C.—is Skinny Pelembe. The Johannesburg-born, Doncaster-raised musician shared the news with a new single called "Like a Heart Won't Beat."

"I didn't know I'd had whatever it was I'd eaten until I started hallucinating…fast forward past seeing myself standing on the roof of the hotel next to me, and thinking I was in the film A Perfect Storm (actually just on a static Chinese all-you-can-eat restaurant boat). Anyway, fast-forward past all that and I'm lying on a bed, seeing Clint Eastwood, playing those chords while he told me I’m ‘base level’ and not getting deep enough. The song is built around vocals sampled from "Trouble So Hard" by singer Vera Hall (1937).
"Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk are telling tales of the winter with the sort of wry, tough pride that seems typical of the locals. There was an old woman, says Parker, who fell on an icy pavement a few weeks back and then had a small mountain of snow dumped on top of her by a passing snowplough. Some hours later a neighbour using a telescope – it’s unclear what kind of magical x-ray telescope – ascertained that someone was buried beneath this new snowdrift. Dug out, the woman proved relatively unscathed. “Just a little hypothermia, I think,” Parker notes, phlegmatically."

"I See You Baby" sampled Earth, Wind & Fire's "Happy Feelin'" and featured Gram'ma Funk on vocals. The song was also recorded with the chorus line "shakin' that thang" (to replace "shakin' that ass") for various markets around the world, and also for use in American TV commercials.
The album is named after an instrumental that did not end up on the album – it was later performed on Belle and Sebastian's early tours.
"A lot of people at our gigs are in their late thirties, forties – but there are a lot of teenagers as well, which is quite fun. We're in a lot of films: someone taking out a Belle & Sebastian record is shorthand for a rounded stereotype. But it's nice if you're a cultural signifier in some way. The first time we heard we'd been played in the café in EastEnders, [lead guitarist] Stevie [Jackson] was delighted!" ind.pn
The fifth studio album from this New York band led by Greta Kline is a well-crafted set of warm, psych-tinged indie-pop combining fuzzy/jangly guitars, keyboards, occasional sax and more with Kline’s lilting vocals and lyrics of change and seeking contentment.

Red Snapper are a British instrumental band founded in London in 1993 by Ali Friend (double bass), Richard Thair (drums), and David Ayers (guitar). According to music journalist Jason Ankeny of AllMusic, "the British acid jazz trio [are] notable for their pioneering synthesis of acoustic instruments and electronic textures".

On "Civic Duty", “Don’t let the melody fool you — what sounds like a summer pop ditty is a mediation on state-sanctioned violence,” says the band of “Civic Duty.” “[In the lyrics], ‘These boys from out of town keep missing all the best things ‘bout this place’ is a reference to how RCMP graduates are relocated to a remote community that is not their own.” Their new record "Pray 4 Tomorrow" is out this Friday.
