Chaise Longue was inspired by Hester Chambers’ grandfather’s chaise longue. “I kind of inherited it,” she explains, “and it now lives in my flat. When Rhian stays over it’s also where she sleeps. She actually wrote all the lyrics to ‘Chaise Longue’ whilst sitting on the chaise longue (all day long).”

Although it was the Sundays' biggest hit internationally, topping the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks chart for one week, the track was never released as a single in the group's native United Kingdom due to the collapse of the Rough Trade Records label. Nonetheless it achieved no. 36 placing in John Peel's Festive Fifty for 1990.

Alynda Segarra says “Pierced Arrows,” is “a heartbreak song, lost in the realm of memory. Being stuck in the past, and finding the rapidly changing world uncanny and bizarre. Trying to outrun trauma. Finding a meeting place between tough and tender. Memory replaying inside/beside you, triggering fight or flight responses.”

Debbie Harry and Chris Stein wrote an early version of "Heart of Glass", called "Once I Had a Love", in 1974–75. This earlier version was initially recorded as a demo in 1975. The song had a slower, funkier sound with a basic disco beat. For this reason the band referred to it as "The Disco Song". This original version was inspired by The Hues Corporation's hit disco song "Rock the Boat"

'Vocalist Molly Rankin and keyboardist Kerri MacLellan hail from Cape Breton, Canada and guitarist Alec O’Hanley, drummer Phil MacIssac and bassist Ryan Murphy are from neighboring Prince Edward Island, both of which are about a 15-hour drive from Toronto. Eventually, the quintet all moved west to the capital of Ontario to secure jobs that would let them tour occasionally, leading Rankin to dub Alvvays as a “merging of obscure islands in the east coast.”'
Arlo Parks will be live on KEXP on Wednesday, March 23 at 2:00 PM. This session is NOT open to the public, so be sure to tune in (or listen from the two-week streaming archives).

This track was written by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson, with the latter also serving as its producer. The track was recorded in three studios – Chung King Studios and Daptone Studios located in New York City and Metropolis Studios in London.
"Back to Black" was inspired by her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil. He had left Winehouse for an ex-girlfriend, leaving her going to "black," which the listener may take to be drinking and depression. Winehouse expresses feelings of hurt and bitterness for a boyfriend who has left her; however, throughout the lyrics she "remains strong" exemplified in the opening lines, "He left no time to regret, Kept his dick wet, With his same old safe bet, Me and my head high, And my tears dry, Get on without my guy."
"Black" has sometimes been considered as a reference to heroin, but this is inaccurate as Winehouse's heroin use did not begin until after her marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil (mid 2007), as confirmed in the Asif Kapadia documentary.
Musically, "Back to Black" explores elements of old school soul music. The song's sound and beat have been described as similar to girl groups from the 1960s. Its production was noted for its Wall of Sound. bit.ly

According to Parton, the song was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with her husband Carl Dean at his local bank branch around the time they were newly married. In an interview, she also revealed that Jolene's name and appearance are based on that of a young fan who came on stage for her autograph. The thumb-picked guitar on the recording is by Chip Young. During an interview on The Bobby Bones Show in 2018, Dolly Parton revealed that she wrote "Jolene" on the same day that she wrote "I Will Always Love You." bit.ly

Gloria Jones, an American singer-songwriter who rose to success in the UK, known there as "The Queen of Northern Soul!" She's worked across multiple genres, including playing a role in the West Coast version of the 1968 musical "Hair", as well as her role as a singer in keyboardist in the glam band T.Rex -- led by her partner Marc Bolan. She and Bolan were involved in a tragic accident where Bolan lost his life.

'Dreamboat Annie' is Heart's debut studio album. "Magic Man" was written and composed by Ann and Nancy Wilson. Ann shared that part of the song was an autobiographical tale of the beginnings of her relationship with band manager and then boyfriend Michael Fisher.

Victoria Legrand spoke about her and bandmate Alex Scally’s songwriting process: "It’s like this stain and it’s coming out because I hear these tones and these chords and these notes, and they make me feel like crying or they make me completely euphoric. That’s the thing that hasn’t changed, but I think it’s become amplified. And that is why I don’t think we’re done making records." bit.ly

A temple is a place of worship and sanctuary. We spend our lives searching for temples where we can belong and be loved, but those spaces can also be a kind of confinement. Temple is an album that pushes open boundaries for a different kind of sanctuary, where you don’t have to whisper.
