"Indian Yard" is the debut record from Sitka, Alaska project Ya Tseen. The project's founder is artist Nicholas Galanin, one of the most vital voices in contemporary art. Galanin was born in Sitka, Alaska, in 1979, and is Tlingit and Unangax̂. As a young boy, he learned to work with jewelry and metals from his father and uncle. He is also the grandchild of master carver George Benson. At the age of eighteen, Galanin worked a desk job at the Sitka National Historical Park. When he was discovered drawing Tlingit art, on a slow day at the park, he was informed that he was only allowed to read Russian history books during working hours. So, he quit his job to pursue art. He recalls this as his last job that was non-creative. In 2003, At London Guildhall University in England, he studied silversmithing and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with honors in Jewelry Design & Silversmithing. In 2007, he received a Masters of Fine Arts in indigenous visual arts at Massey University in New Zealand. Galanin has also done apprenticeships with master carvers and jewelers. bit.ly

This is the first track released ahead of London-based musician Baba Ali’s debut album. Originally hailing from New Jersey, he revealed the inspiration behind the title of the song: Where I live in London, my window faces the high street and I’m not too far from a church. In the autumn there were a lot of funerals, and the horse and carriage procession would often come down the street. It’s quite an arresting image; it feels like it’s from a different era. That’s the “black wagon”, and the rest of the lyrics are me reminiscing about the feeling of going to raves and coming home at sunrise… Keep an ear out for the debut album “Memory Device” produced and recorded with Al Doyle (LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip) in East London.
