"For their debut EP, 'Dansu' Belgian-Japanese artist Aili Maruyama and 'Transistorcake' Orson joined forces. The pair worked through lockdown to produce a wonderfully fresh sounding music project. Effortlessly bringing together elements of Kosmiche Musik, Acid House, Electronica, Disco & Leftfield Pop, it’s as easy on the ears as it is hard to categorize." The second studio album by Somali-Canadian hip hop artist K'naan features performances by Chali 2na, Mos Def, Kirk Hammett, Chubb Rock, Damian Marley, and Adam Levine. __ In his own words: "My music is kinda like...If a flute went to bed with a drum, and got accidentally pregnant, and a child called Piano was born.. and then that child drowned, but then got saved by a whale, spat out onto land, before language was born, just after poetry had died.. and now the piano child was off key... forever and ever and ever." __ knaan.com

Of this track, Gabriel Teodros shared, "I wrote this song thinking of all Ethiopians in the diaspora as 'cousins' not knowing I had actual cousins in the IDF. I knew it was possible though. Today I just found out one of our little cousins got summoned to the front lines out there. To be scared for someone and scared about what they might do. Sending love to everyone resisting war, resisting occupation, resisting the killing of innocent people. We all have to do what we can to stop a genocide. Resist. Free Palestine." This track was chosen as KEXP Song of the Day last month: www.kexp.org

Bruk Rogers, aka Cian McCann, (Zero T/Zero Tolerance/Searchlight) follows up on his releases “Style” and “LDN 313” with two distinct singles, united by their irresistible call to dance. “Deusa”, translating to ‘goddess’ in Portuguese, is a bossa nova meets Broken beat medley. Cian sent his shuffling beat to Onj (AKA Andre Louis) who recorded the keys within 5 minutes, matching the tropical jazzy style. Roberta Silva, a Brazilian singer-songwriter residing in London, adds her touch to the track in her mother tongue. The lyrics serve as affirmations for a powerful woman, speaking of the sunrays that follow you when you’re filled with hope. Friends in Sao Paolo recorded street sounds and conversations to add to the lively buzz you hear in the intro. brukrogersmusic.bandcamp.com

German-Afghan producer's second album was composed during the pandemic, which gave him time to research and dive into different aspects of Afghan culture: "To me this album feels personal, because I spent a long time with it, and put so much of that Kabul Spice there. It's not Afghan music, but it's not German music either." Read more at: daily.bandcamp.com Download "Yak Sher", a KEXP song of the day in March: www.kexp.org

A native of Bergen, Norway, Øye moved to London in 1998, playing guitar in a band called Peachfuzz. During visits home, he and former high school bandmate Eirik Glambek Bøe would play together, eventually forming Kings of Convenience. Their quiet introspective indie pop drew inspiration from acts like Simon & Garfunkel and Belle & Sebastian, culminating in their 2001 breakthrough debut album Quiet Is the New Loud. After his collaboration with Röyksopp that same year, Øye developed an interest in electronic music and relocated to Berlin, immersing himself in numerous projects and traveling the world from this new home base. In 2003, he released the highly collaborative solo album Unrest, which was recorded in ten different cities with ten different electronic artists. This particular track was recorded in Barcelona with Scott Herren.
