Title track from "Motherland Journey", featuring Ghanaian producer KillBeatz and vocals of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. "This album took us two-and-a-half years to finish, our longest process to make an album, but it was so worth it. On this album you’ll hear many fusions of genres and inspirations that we gathered throughout that time frame and especially to work on so many of the songs during the first lockdown it was a test in itself." www.bluenote.com bluelabbeats.bandcamp.com

"Third Time's The Charm concludes this trilogy of albums that directly focus on my study of time and how important it is to make sure what you’re doing is fulfilling you in every way. Sonically it’s a bit more reggae than my last, even though reggae is always the root, I had some fun implementing all the sounds I’ve grown to love." Lee-lah-eye-kay www.protoje.com

"Sometimes a single song on an album crystallizes the entire album's themes and sonic ambitions, illuminating everything else around it. It becomes the pump irrigating all the other tracks with deeper meaning. And sometimes a single line within a song serves the same function on a smaller scale. 'Soldier,' on Erykah Badu’s masterful 2008 album 'New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)', is that song, and the line doing double duty is, 'And if you think about turning back, I got the shotgun for your back.' That's Erykah's shout-out to Harriet Tubman and her tack for dealing with slaves she’d helped escape, but whose fears of what freedom might mean (and cost) gave them cold feet, making them consider voluntarily returning to bondage. Those words very much resonate in the here and now." www.trunkworthy.com

From the L.A. producer's debut solo album "LOUIE". Though best known for producing seminal albums for some of the world’s most exciting artists (Vince Staples, IDLES, Rico Nasty), on "LOUIE" Kenny subverts expectations with an almost entirely instrumental artist record that acts as a deeply personal tribute to the artist’s ailing father. Over 17 songs, "LOUIE" is a hypnotic odyssey of wounded, teardrop soul; a side of Kenny that has not been seen by the world before. xlrecordings.com kennybeats.bandcamp.com

At Nectar Lounge on November 7th. “My philosophy of life is don’t take shit too seriously,” says DOMi Louna, born Domitille Degalle. And that’s fair. But the vibrant world she and her collaborator have given us demands exploration. Their long-awaited debut album—which will be released by Anderson .Paak’s new label APESHIT in partnership with the legendary jazz label Blue Note Records—is an attempt to bottle their goofy, very virtuosic magic. Their music finds both humor and greatness in harmonic complexity and rhythmic shiftiness, abruptly adopting and ditching tempos, toying with time signatures, and sneaking extra beats into bridges." www.bluenote.com

Andrew Vowles, the main songwriter of Teardrop, sent an early demo of the song to Madonna, as he initially wanted her to record the vocals for the song, as the band had previously worked with her on their 1995 reworking of the song "I Want You". However, bandmates Robert Del Naja and Grantley Marshall wanted Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins to record the vocals, feeling her ethereal style suited the feel of the piece. Although Madonna was very keen to record the vocals, the two-to-one vote ruled in Fraser's favor.
