Shahla Safi Zamir (Marjan) was born in Tehran in 1948. The Islamic Revolution effectively ended her career. She was jailed in 1980 for performing a song, arrested again in 1982 and jailed until 1990. She fled to Dubai in 2001 and emigrated to the US in 2006. She died last year in Los Angeles from a heart attack.
