Neil Halstead said about "Shanty": Neil Halstead:
This is probably one of the first tunes we worked on. I sent a bunch of electronic music through and this was one of them. There was a eureka moment with this track, where I was trying to keep it very electronic and then we ended up just putting some very noisy guitars on and it was a bit like, ‘Oh, OK, that works.’ I remember Rachel [Goswell] saying when I sent her the demo that she was listening to it a lot, and she said she was getting really excited about going in and recording with the band again. It was the first tune in terms of thinking about getting into the studio and recording again.

Black Pumas singer/songwriter Eric Burton describes this as “the exclamation point on the initiation of mine and Adrian’s relationship in the first place.” “That’s what we sound like, together when he is introducing music to me for me to then find the character or the moment to embellish and add colours to that initial canvas,” he told NME. He adds in a press release, “’More Than a Love Song’ is a message I borrowed from my Uncle Steve. As a songwriter and caregiver, he’d listen to me write songs from afar and if I were lucky he’d have a pointer or two for me. ‘Life is more than a love song.’” "Chronicles of a Diamond" comes out in late October. www.blackpumas.com

THIS IS NOT AN EXIT’s title is a reflection of something Jess Corazza realized during a period of personal and familial crises. “I kept walking into buildings and I’d try to exit somewhere and the sign would be like, ‘This is not an exit,’” she says. “It just felt like a metaphor for a hopeful thing—don't give up yet.” - illpeach.bandcamp.com

Presently residing in the UK, Jalen grew up just outside of Washington D.C. At the tender age of 11, his father introduced him to the joys of soul music, most notably Motown's robust catalog, which he soaked up like a thirsty sponge. tinyurl.com

Speaking of this new single, the band said: “The genesis of ‘All Lined Up’ stems from late nights at the bar playing pool. Last call has long come and gone, the gate is down, the ashtrays are out and your friend behind the bar is giving it all away.“ Despite the revelry, there’s a looming sense of dread—a fear that no matter how far ahead you get, all it takes is one bad shot to lose the game.”

On the harpist's 7th album, 'Brand New Life', Brandee Younger pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Dorothy Ashby, whose groundbreaking work brought the harp to the forefront of popular genres and has influenced generations of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B musicians. 'Brand New Life' sees Younger lend her inimitable talent to original compositions (including the album’s title track, an evocative collaboration with singer-activist Mumu Fresh), reworks of iconic pieces from Ashby’s catalog, and never-before-recorded works by Ashby.
