“In the Country,” is La Luz's first new material since the release of "Floating Features," their acclaimed album of 2018. Shana Cleveland, the band’s frontperson, offers this, “I moved to the country a few years ago after living in cities for most of my life. Being out in the middle of nowhere makes it easy to imagine how it would be possible to leave society all together. I love how in this track some of the most unnatural elements of the arrangement (synthesizers, fuzz, effects) create an atmosphere around the instruments that ends up feeling very natural--I can hear bugs buzzing around and bird sounds in different directions.”
In a press release, Crumb says, “‘BNR’ is an ode to my favorite colors. I had a weird obsession with those colors in winter 2018-2019 and felt like they would follow me around everywhere I went.

Hannah Jadagu, an 18 year-old singer/songwriter Mesquite, TX-bred, New York-based artist’s debut EP
“‘Think Too Much’ is the only song that I’d written with the intent of putting it on an EP,” Jadagu says. “Sonically, I was challenging myself to make a song that was high energy, fun, and a ‘bop,’ as I like to call it. At the time, I remember listening to a lot of Dayglow, Jean Dawson, and Winnetka Bowling League, and thinking to myself, ‘These people are making such catchy and fun songs without even trying.’ Then I thought to myself, ‘You’re really thinking too much.’ I asked all my friends what they thought about ‘too much,’ compiled their responses, chose some fun chords and rhythms inspired by Snail Mail and Phoenix, and went to work.”

Guitarist Jimmy James recently told American Songwriter about the process of recording--“It’s a collaborative effort with all of us,” James says. “What’s great about people having input is that then the band sounds more natural, more cohesive. The band sounds more together in that way and that’s the way it should be. Because if the band sounds comfortable and it sits on the groove, then it comes to life.” -- tinyurl.com

"A little-known fact about Richard is that she has a deep passion for anime (the name Danity Kane came from an anime character she drew), with its empowered female characters who are as lethal as they are tender-hearted. But rarely are they Black, as her album cover depicts, yet that has not deterred Richard’s love for the art form; it’s instead compelled her to lend her efforts to animation via her work with Adult Swim. All this to say that the absence of Black faces and Black women in spaces that interest her has not stopped Richard from going in headfirst. Like other Black women who didn’t plan on being pioneers, she’s become part of the genesis out of a sheer need to not be boxed in." - pitchfork.com

The husband-and-wife duo from Puerto Rico noted about this track: “‘Vámono’ is an amalgam of several Neo-Cultural expressions of ancestral traditions celebrated in regions close to our own personal history in Puerto Rico."
"This song works as a sort of mantra to not fold under the force of life’s duress as she sings with the most potent melody of the hook, 'Sometimes when yuh feel it yuh cry doh. Hurt yuh heart, enuh. But do, no mek it stress yuh.'" Read a review of this great track by Jamaican artist Koffee, also known as Mikayla Simpson.: www.euphoriazine.com

The lead single for North Carolina hip hop artist Rapsody’s 2019 album 'Eve'. The song pays homage to “Liquid Swords” by GZA, as it samples the same song ("Groovin'" by Willie Mitchell), interpolates the hook, and features the man himself.
The album aims to celebrate and pay homage to influential black women. This song is named after Ibtihaj Muhammad, an Olympic fencing bronze medalist and the first Muslim woman to wear a hijab while representing the United States at the Olympics.
Another Juneteenth 2020 release -- from the LA-based experimental hip-hop trio with rapper Daveed Diggs and producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes. This one includes a sample of "Freestyle" by DJ Screw and Big Floyd.
Two lines from the album went viral on TikTok, serving as the soundtrack for more than 75,000 videos as of November 2020:
