Hungarian band The Qualitons make music that blends '60s and '70s mod rock with funk, prog, and psychedelic. Formed in 2008, they initially started out as an instrumental jazz-funk act, with all the original members having graduated from the Department of Jazz a the Franz Liszt Music Academy.
Anderson .Paak has stated in interviews that Dr. Dre let him have more freedom with the production on Ventura, following the more tightly produced Oxnard. In a March 2019 interview for Esquire, he said, "[Dre] let me have a lot of leeway on Ventura. He was like, it seems like you got it. I spread my wings on the production and on the writing and on these collaborations."
The lyrical style on Father Of The Bride is more direct and straightforward than Ezra Koenig's previous writing, inspired by Kacey Musgraves. Themes explored on the album include doom, complacency, romantic downfall, populist politics, uncertainty, environmentalism, and existentialism, with an eventual arc towards redemption and rebirth.
Hot Chip will be in Seattle later this year, playing at the Showbox on September 19th.

Alyse Velltoro aka pronoun, describes her writing process: "Every night after work I'd go home, buy a six pack, and sit at my computer with my electric guitar. Once I felt the song had its bones I would go have a cigarette in my backyard, write a verse, go in and record the verse, go out for another cigarette, write a second verse, etc. All the verses are written in about three minutes."

J. Robbins is a DC punk legend, a former frontman of the great post-hardcore bands Jawbox and Burning Airlines. These days, he’s a family man, living in Baltimore and producing bands like Two Inch Astronaut and Coliseum. Speaking of ‘Wednesday’s Child’, the frontman James Cox has said: “This is one of the songs that got me into a really strange head space to write. When writing; I quite often go heavily into research worm-holes - going really deep into subjects I’m curious about until it’s so uncomfortable I’ll have to shelve it for a while.
Speaking about the new single, the duo explain, "'Almost It' is about how you’re always striving towards something, but you often don’t notice the things you’ve achieved or the fun you’ve had along the way. It’s about living in the moment, but acknowledging that it can be hard sometimes."

Lau Noah is a singer-songwriter hailing from Reus, Spain who incorporates flourishing flamenco guitar into her work. She sings in Catalan, Spanish, English and sometimes Hebrew. She played the piano growing up and left Spain for New York City five years ago while still a teen. This February, Lau Noah performed a Tiny Desk concert.
After undergoing open-heart surgery at the age of 23, singer and keyboardist Ian Ketterer relocated his band Among Authors from Wisconsin to Seattle, WA to greater push their music career. They independently released their debut album, I Am Become, in April 2017. They embarked on their first West Coast tour in February and March of 2018. The band submitted the song “Lure” to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest last year and performed as part of the NPR Tiny Desk Contest Concert in KEXP’s Gathering Space last June. They’re rumored to be working on their sophomore album, and they’re touring the U.S. this summer, hitting New York, Philadelphia, Denver, Portland, and more!

Urban Verbs was an American new wave band from Washington, D.C. The band was fronted by Roddy Frantz, brother of Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz. In 1977, the Urban Verbs played their first shows and became a nexus of the DC new wave and punk rock scene.

The Comet is Coming is a London-based experimental jazz outfit signed to Impulse! Records.This March, they released their sophomore effort, Trust In The Lifeforce Of The Deep Mystery. “Summon the Fire” was a single from the record, and it’s got a great electronic groove that feels like it’s straight out of Blade Runner. Drummer Betamax explains: “There are going to be some massive shifts in our own lifetime as life begins to transcend biology… so let’s at least find some essential truths and inner peace so we can make wise decisions.”
