"For his 1966 debut for Atlantic Records, jazz vibraphonist and marimba player Dave Pike and an all-star lineup produced a perfect blend of Jazz, Latin, Soul and R&B that stands the test of time. Produced by Pike’s frequent collaborator Herbie Mann, Jazz for the Jet Set featured a young Herbie Hancock on organ (an instrument he rarely played again), Clark Terry on trumpet, Billy Butler on guitar, Grady Tate on drums, and many other talented musicians. From an artistic perspective, the album marked a pivotal time in Pike’s career, when he began to move away from straight-ahead jazz and forge a relationship with soul music, Latin rhythms, pop arrangements and more experimental styles. With this official re-issue courtesy of Nature Sounds, Jazz For The Jet Set is now back on limited-edition vinyl while supplies last." recordstoreday.com

"Idles tackled the potent themes of white privilege and the state of the NHS in their 2017 breakthrough Brutalism, while their Mercury Prize-nominated follow-up, 2018’s Joy as an Act of Resistance, probed toxic masculinity, Brexit and the benefits of immigration. Ultra Mono is no less angry, or political. And it could be the most vital album we’ll hear all 2020. It doesn’t get more urgent than the furious “War”, which melds descending licks and post-punk rhythm guitar with a cacophony of distortion, rolling drums and frontman Joe Talbot’s full-throttle battle-cry. Like all the songs here, it’s finished with sharp precision; the Bristol band’s tightness helps to hammer their every message into the core of the listener." www.independent.co.uk

Kelly Finnigan, the lead singer of Bay Area-based indie-soul auteurs Monophonics, has announced his debut solo album ‘The Tales People Tell,’ which came out April 26 on Colemine Records. Over the course of the album’s 10 new, original songs, Kelly channels a multitude of influences that reflect a lifetime immersed in the music and culture of soul, R&B, and hip-hop - it’s the story of an outsider that followed an unorthodox route, always guided by his own creative north star. To accompany the announcement, Kelly has released the album’s opening track and lead single “I Don’t Wanna Wait " with an exclusive B-side, a cover of Reuben Bell's "It's Not That Easy". "The debut album from Dublin’s Pillow Queens couldn’t be arriving at a better time. With society increasingly fractured – both by the rhetoric of division spread by our political leaders and by our current six-feet-apart reality – the underlying message that courses through ‘In Waiting’ is one of unity, community and inclusivity. It’s a note that shines with positivity even on the album’s more moving tracks, the band still able to pinpoint hope in the dark." www.nme.com Support the band here: pillowqueens.bandcamp.com

"The story of this compilation begins with a decades old myth; the "mystery singer" on a 10" acetate demo played to Elvis by Sam Phillips in June of 1954. Phillips, who was unable to ascertain the name of the singer, asked Elvis to sing the song as a debut record. The young, unknown Elvis was daunted by the performance. After attempting to record the song, Elvis felt he could not do it justice, and went on to record “That's All Right”. The demo's existence became an urban myth. The singer was finally identified as Jimmy Sweeney in early 2017 by writer Chris Kennedy, whose suspicions were confirmed by multiple sources, including Jimmy's daughter Eugenia. Sweeney’s masterpiece will finally be released under his own name on this compilation. In addition to that demo song, “Without You”, the album features some of Sweeney’s best recordings, many of which were never released to the public." recordstoreday.com

"One of the greatest solo debuts in rock history, Paul McCartney's McCartney, will receive a special 50th anniversary release in a limited-edition half-speed mastered vinyl pressing for Record Store Day. Originally released in April 1970, one month before The Beatles’ swansong Let It Be, McCartney saw Paul getting back to basics. Writing every song and playing every instrument (with backing vocals from Linda McCartney), the eponymous album represented a creative rebirth, bursting with new ideas, experiments, playfulness and freedom. Sonically, McCartney's bare-bones home recording aesthetic imbued the album with an authentic lo-fi spirit, a much sought after sound that continues to retain a contemporary edge 50 years on. The 50th anniversary Record Store Day limited edition of McCartney was pressed from a master cut by Miles Showell at half speed using the original 1970 master tapes at Abbey Road Studios.
