The four members were originally housemates in Brisbane when Confidence Man started, born out of a long-running joke to form a band, that no one seemed to want to stop. Before they knew it, the running gag had become a full-time job. “We just sort of started music as a joke,” Planet confirms. “Then we all thought, ‘Hang on, maybe this is good?’” After questioning the power of their sound, it didn’t take Confidence Man long to obtain a spot in the A-team of Australian pop. Since, Planet’s life has taken an unexpected turn. “I wasn’t meant to be a musician, I was supposed to be a marketing person,” she says. “I am a classically trained pianist and violinist. Which again, is odd that I ended up being in this band.” bit.ly

The song was inspired by the short-lived nature of (then-lead vocalist) Ian MacKaye's previous band Embrace. "I don't know how everyone else feels ... but I definitely go through periods of extreme self-confidence, feeling like I can do anything. Perhaps a fan will sense that, like in a performance, and the hero image creeps out. But then someone will say something, however insignificant, or I'll get something in my head and, all of a sudden, I'm plummeting in the opposite direction, I'm a piece of shit, and I really can't do anything about it. That's where "Outshined" comes from, and why I'll never consider myself a hero." -- Chris Cornell bit.ly

Psychedelic funk trio Khruangbin have just dropped their new album, Mordechai. The new record was inspired by an encounter bassist Laura Lee had with a near-stranger. According to a statement, a man named Mordechai invited her to go hiking with his family to a distant waterfall. As she jumped into the water at Mordechai’s encouragement, she screamed her full name — Laura Lee Ochoa — in a moment she compared to a baptism. Her heritage reclaimed, the newly-rechristened Ochoa left the waterfall overflowing with words that went on to fill hundreds of notebook pages. The question was what to do with them.
