Good morning and happy Friday. Blue Sky Black Death is a duo from San Francisco, consisting of Ryan Maguire, better known by his stage name Kingston, and Ian Taggart, better known by his stage name Young God. Their name is "a skydiving phrase alluding to beauty and death."

This new song by Elbow features vocals from American folk singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop. In it, the band the band grapples with Brexit and the UK’s uncertain future, switching between narratives of defeat and redemption. The song takes its title from a term used in heraldry, denoting the two sides of an escutcheon (shield), the honored Dexter (right) and the ordinary Sinister (left).

This was written around 1953 by Don Covay, an R&B singer who wrote songs that were recorded by The Rolling Stones ("Mercy Mercy), Wilson Pickett ("I'm Gonna Cry"), Otis Redding ("Think About It") and many others. Covay also recorded the song, but his version went nowhere. This won a Grammy for Best Female R&B Performance in 1969. That category was introduced in 1968; Aretha Franklin won the first eight years, adding three more trophies in the '80s.
The main vocals of the song are pulled from a 1980 song titled "Subways" by Chandra Oppenheim, who was 12 years old at the time of its release. She had not previously heard about the Avalanches until they approached her regarding the sample. Here's the official music video: www.youtube.com

Luscious Jackson was an all-female alternative funk band which made four albums in the 1990s. "Naked Eye" was the most successful of the songs they produced. Speaking of 1996 bands, Butter 08 was a short-lived musical side-project whose members consisted of Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto, Russell Simins of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Rick Lee of Skeleton Key and director Mike Mills. The band was formed allegedly when the members spent an evening recording the 1995 Cibo Matto single "Know Your Chicken" together. A demo was then sent to Beastie Boys' Mike D, who immediately signed Butter 08 to Grand Royal.
