Chilean born activist and artist Ana Tijoux is a survivor of the brutal Pinochet regime who uses her music to explore her Mapuche roots. “1977” is the title track off Ana Tijoux’s 2009 debut album. In an interview, Ana states: "It was a long time ago that I wanted to make a song about, like a little biography of myself. But I didn’t make it before because I was thinking that it was egocentric. So it’s like now, no, forget about that." '1977' is the biography that came of this desire. Born in Paris in 1977 to Chilean parents exiled from Chile during Pinochet’s dictatorship. This song reflects Ana’s upbringing and experiences growing up.
