Originating from Pamplona, Spain near the Pyrenees mountains, Spanish indie-pop group Melenas released their new album Ahora. It's about “the importance of time, to reflect on how we live our everyday lives, with whom we share our moments and how we want (or don’t want) to do it.” The word “ahora” means “now” in English, but can also refer to an event in the not-too-distant past or future; it’s a state of living in the now. With this release, Melenas intends to “convey a moment of halting and reflecting on the present to know what we want to remain and what we need to leave behind.”

"The producer known as MVW has put his finishing touches to an album with regular collaborator Valee, entitled VALEEDATION, with their chemistry resulting in new music that could just well turn out to be the pair’s magnum opus. VALEEDATION offers a unique language that Valee and MVW have developed through their shared artistic vision. The project's sonic correlation with fine art allows it to transcend the boundaries of genre, blending into a sound coined as “museum rap”. The structural elements of classical music embedded within the song forms on VALEEDATION add an extra layer of sophistication and elevation.
MVW's expertise in contemporary classical composition shines through as he weaves together intricate arrangements, showcasing his ability to meld genres seamlessly. Having studied classical music at New York University and under La Monte Young (one of the most revered American minimalist composers) and Bunita Marcus, Waller has also released three full LPs of classical compositions under his full name Michael Vincent Waller, including Moments which received a 7.8 from Pitchfork. MVW has worked with other innovative rappers such as TiaCorine, Xavier Wulf, Lil Gotit, Matt Ox, and Zelooperz.
Valee is a visionary rapper known for his unconventional style and infectious energy. With his distinctive lyrical delivery and unwavering commitment to artistic exploration, Valee has become a transformative force within the rap landscape. This new album follows up Valee’s project with Action Bronson and Greedo 03 produced by Harry Fraud. Valee has also collaborated with artists such as Lil Yachty, G Herbo, King Louie, and Vic Mensa. His EP GOOD Job, You Found Me was executive produced by Kanye West.
What sets Valee apart is his artistic evolution over the past few years, which has been meticulously honed alongside one of his core producers, MVW. Together, they have crafted a distinctive sound that fuses contemporary classical influences with refined melodies, elevating the sonic tapestries of trap music. This project includes contributions from futuristic voices, Zelooperz, Tony Shhnow, Pink Siifu, and Bbyafricka."

Floating Points returns with “Birth4000”. Sam Shepherd drops his first new music of 2023 and it’s a big one!
The track is out via Ninja Tune and has featured in DJ sets from Four Tet, Peggy Gou, and Ben UFO among others over the summer.
The heavy-hitting techno track is a world away from Promises, the cosmic 2021 album Floating Points recorded alongside the late saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra. Last month Sam Shepherd recruited an all-star team of artists, including Shabaka Hutchings, Dan Snaith (Caribou) Kara-Lis Coverdale, John Escreet, Jeffrey Makinson, and Hinako Omori, to perform the album live at the Hollywood Bowl.

Athlete Whippet returns to Toy Tonics with his 3rd EP ‘U Never Listen’ on the German powerhouse dance label. Having studied music at Goldsmiths in London, Robin Braum aka Athlete Whippet is known for exploring the more playful side of house music and those genres around it, rich in instrumentation and variation. More performative than ever, ‘U Never Listen’ comes full of vocals, performed instruments, lively arpeggios, no samples, but racked with hooks.
‘Release Me’ features beautiful, multilayered vocals by Allysha Joy, known for her solo work on labels like Gondwana and First Word but also for being the voice of Australian cult outfit 30/70.
The EP is also a product of Robin’s deep friendship with Athlete Whippet founding member Avi Barath who co-wrote many of the songs.

Drummer Yussef Dayes just released his debut solo studio album, "Black Classical Music," in September. He is aided by Rocco Palladino (bass), Charlie Stacey (keys/synths), Venna (saxophone), and Alexander Bourt (percussion). For 'Aquemini' the duo used live instrumentation and improvisation, bringing a baby grand piano into the studio and hiring musicians who played "everything from stoner funk to prog rock." Producer Neal H. Pogue recalled, "That was the beauty of making all those records – having musicians come in and out. It was almost like a Motown, that's what we had. Or like a Stax Records thing. That's what I loved about it. It brought back that whole feeling of making records. It was organic."
