Jamie describes his own music style as "brooding, cinematic and minimalist" and says he would never write a song without a piano line in it.
The xx's two singers, Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim, met in preschool in a London suburb when they were only 3 years old. "They had music classes, and I remember sharing a xylophone in that music class," Sim recalled to NPR.

The song samples a 1937 recording by American folklorist Alan Lomax of Vera Hall's "Trouble So Hard." Vera Hall was a 1930s country blues singer and her recorded output was largely preserved via field recordings made by Lomax. Moby first came across this song on the Lomax collection Alabama: From Lullabies to Blues.
Wonder wasn't happy with the depth of his bass notes, so he sped the tape up while recording so the notes would sound lower when played back at a normal speed.

Tirzah is actually Tirzah Mastin and Mica Levi. Levi recalls being amazed hearing her friend sing for the first time, when she casually asked her to add some vocals to a UK garage track she was working on at school: “I couldn’t believe it. Your friend, who you’ve been having conversations with, has got this amazingly beautiful voice. I was like, What—and then I tried to make more music with her.”

As its title suggests, the album sees Cherry wrestling with today’s political climate and the disillusionment it’s bred. She elaborated in a statement:
“I like writing from a personal perspective, and the time we live in is so much about finding your own voice. People have been left feeling misheard, misunderstood, and disillusioned. What the fuck can I do? Maybe politics starts in your bedroom, or your house — a form of activism, and a responsibility. The album is about all of those things: feeling broken, disappointed, and sad, but having perseverance. It’s a fight against the extinction of free thought and spirit.”

A little over a year ago, on her 30th birthday, Melody Prochet announced this, her second album as Melody’s Echo Chamber, titled Bon Voyage. At the time, a new song was released, and a tour was planned. But soon after, everything was put on hold: Her family released a statement announcing that she would be hospitalized for months due to a “serious accident.” An ensuing report stated that she had fallen, broken vertebrae in her neck and spine, and suffered a brain aneurysm.
Though Prochet is not yet ready to talk about the specifics surrounding last year’s events, it’s clear is that she’s doing better. “Today I feel blessed, as I’m healed,” she wrote Pitchfork via email. “It’s been traumatic but it has beautifully put some perspective into my eyes and broke a life pattern that didn’t work for me. I’m lucky it revealed more light.”

"When I hear people talk of peace in America, the discrepancy between our words and our actions can get fatiguing," RJD2 said about this track in a press release. "I was trying to reflect the experience of people I know, which often feels like, ‘We're not ACTUALLY trying to do anything about this problem in our country.’"
The chant in the song: "ha-da-dadee-da da-da hava da da," is based on a Bar Mitzvah chant.
Monáe describes the song as, "a celebration of creation, self love, sexuality and pussy power", and that the color pink "unites all of humanity" because it is the color "found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere." It interpolates the song "Pink" by Aerosmith, with members of the band being credited as co-writers.
Thom Yorke has just released this track, “Suspirium,” it's part of the soundtrack he has scored for Luca Guadagnino’s new horror flick Suspiria (he also directed Call Me By Your Name).
Pitchfork reports that during a radio interview last year, he explained how Vangelis’ Blade Runner score inspired his own Suspiria work. Over the weekend, the film made its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Yorke was present for the premiere and participated in a panel, during which he compared the composition process to “making spells.”

In an interview Bob Mould said of this song: “It was this dream song that just turned up as I was waking up one morning, it came to me fully formed, and then it’s just all the baubles that make it that crazy baroque band thing. All that was pretty much in my head too, but you have to sit down and make these baubles shine. That’s the production stuff.”
