"Spanish Bombs" comes from London Calling, The Clash’s iconic album and one of the most influential punk rock records of all time. While the song is a classic in its own right, it has additional meaning for the members of Hinds because of its perspective on the Spanish Civil War — singer Joe Strummer was inspired to write about it after he heard about the Costa Brava hotel bombings on the radio at the time — as a piece of pop culture history.
“The Clash were my mom’s forever favorite band and Ade’s parents also, so it is always beautiful to connect generations through music,” Hinds wrote in a statement. “As Spaniards, we don’t usually get shout outs in songs, like ‘New York’ or ‘London,’ so The Clash writing a song about our civil war made us feel honored. We recorded it the last day of studio, pretty much live, while recording our third album.” bit.ly

This album was released in the US on this date in 1995.
The song contains a short sample from the Kraftwerk song "Ohm Sweet Ohm", from the album Radio-Activity (1975). The drums in the song was sampled from the "Theme From the Planets" by Dexter Wansel. The vocals "the brother's gonna work it out" are from "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" by Blake Baxter.

Black Sabbath Cover Band Rehearsals — the aptly/diffusely named Black Sabbath cover band featuring an array of indie rock stalwarts — has shared their take on “Sweet Leaf” from an upcoming single, Master of Rehearsal, out September 4th via Famous Class Records.
BSCBR was formed a few years back when the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, drummer Greg Fox (Liturgy), and Angel Deradoorian (ex-Dirty Projectors) met at a music residency in Berlin and spent some time playing Black Sabbath songs together. When they returned to New York, Zinner enlisted Interpol’s Brad Truax on guitar and Ocrilim’s Mick Barr on bass to fill out the group.

It's been six years since we've seen a new album from Ana Tijoux, but a new LP is coming later this year! This new single references police brutality in South America. She notes about this song: "While we are at home, we are not not asleep. To those below us, we continue to weave the nets, holding ourselves up with open hearts. From the confinement, the deficiencies have become evident. There are thousands of us and solidarity makes us one.”
