Sly Stone formed Sly & the Family Stone--originally Sly & the Stoners--in San Francisco, CA in 1966.
Early 1970's psychedelic rock out of San Francisco. Formed in late 1965, Sopwith Camel produced two albums, and broke up in 1974.
Sopwith Camel is best known for being the second San Francisco band to get a recording contract with a national record label. sopwithcamel.org
Lead single from Mary Jane Girls' 1985 sophomore release 'Only Four You'. This L.A based funk/R&B band were active from 1979-1987. They were protégées of Rick James and released 2 albums in the 80's. Their 3rd album was shelved but later released as part of a retrospective of Rick James's work.

Our House was written by Madness bass player/vocalist Carl Smyth and guitarist Christopher Foreman. The house where Smyth grew up inspired the lyric. The song's video features the band as a cloth-cap wearing family squashed into a terraced house. Drummer Dan "Woody" Woodgate recalls, "The knocking-on-the-door bit where somebody comes out, goes, 'Where are they?' and the others sneak in and close the door... That's The Flintstones. The music video for Burning Down the House was directed by David Byrne and was the first Talking Heads video to show the full band - their famous "Once In A Lifetime" video is just Byrne.

Originally on "Kaleidoscope" from 1980. "Happy House" and the Kaleidoscope album marked a change in musical direction for Siouxsie and the Banshees due to the arrival of two new musicians: drummer Budgie, previously of the Slits, and guitarist John McGeoch, previously of Magazine.

The song's ethereal synths and sense of space give the effect of shoegaze's swarming sound with all the charging stuff jettisoned elsewhere, while singer Andrea Estella's voice floats steadily through the negative space. "Kimmi in a Rice Field" is an accessible song, but it's also fascinatingly strange, its accompanying fantasy-film-meets-body-horror clip driving home that balance between "straightforward" and "weird".

Baby Hendrix is heeeeeeeere!
This track was recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1968 that appears as the final track on the Electric Ladyland album released that year. It contains improvised guitar and a vocal from Jimi Hendrix, backed by Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums.

"Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" was recorded in 1991 by California based American funk metal band Primus. It tells the stories of two characters, Jerry, an ill-fated race car driver who collides with a telephone pole while driving intoxicated (hence the use of "was", in the title) and Captain Pierce, a retired fireman (who was actually frontman Les Claypool's grandfather).

Otis Redding went into the studio to record '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay'. The song went on to be his biggest hit. Redding didn't see its release; he was killed three days later in a plane crash.
Redding wrote the first verse of the song, under the abbreviated title 'Dock of the Bay', on a houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California a short time after his appearance at The Monterey pop festival. Redding's familiar whistling, heard before the song's fade was the singer fooling around, he had intended to return to the studio at a later date to add words in place of the whistling.
"Going to California" is a folk-style song, with Robert Plant on vocal, acoustic guitar by Jimmy Page and mandolin by John Paul Jones.
The song started out as a song about Californian earthquakes and when Jimmy Page, audio engineer Andy Johns and band manager Peter Grant travelled to Los Angeles to mix Led Zeppelin IV, they coincidentally experienced a minor earthquake.
According to music writer Nick DeRiso, Joni Mitchell also inspired the song: "Plant makes a clear reference to 'I Had a King', the opening song from Mitchell's debut album, 1968's Song to a Seagull: 'To find a queen without a king', he quietly offers in the final verse. 'They say she plays guitar, cries and sings.'" In an interview for Spin magazine, Plant admitted that it "might be a bit embarrassing at times lyrically, but it did sum up a period of my life when I was 22."
"Fake Tales of San Francisco" narrates the beginning of the band, their gigs in Sheffield local bars and their comparison to other bands.
