Born this day in 1939 – Grace Slick, American singer-songwriter, musician, artist, and model (Jefferson Airplane, Starship). "White Rabbit" was written and performed by Grace Slick while she was still with The Great Society. Slick quit them and joined Jefferson Airplane to replace their departing female singer, Signe Toly Anderson. The first album Slick recorded with Jefferson Airplane was Surrealistic Pillow, and Slick provided two songs from her previous group, including "White Rabbit." The Great Society's version of "White Rabbit" was much longer than the more aggressive version of Jefferson Airplane.

The Funkees were an afro-rock band out of Nigeria in the late 60s and early 70s, relocating to London in 1973. Break Through is a song by The Atomic Rooster, released as a single and later on The World Ends: Afro Rock & Psychedelia in 1970s Nigeria. Check out the track here: youtu.be

On this day in 1968 - Marvin Gaye released the single 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine'. RIP Barrett Strong. "Songs outlive people," Strong told The New York Times in 2013. " This Marvin Gaye recording of the Barrett Strong-penned song, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" has since become an acclaimed soul classic since its release in 1968. In 1998 the song was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame for "historical, artistic and significant" value.

Slowdive entered the studio in September 2020 to begin recording their fifth album. The band originally booked studio sessions for April 2020 that were cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, the band suffered the loss of Rachel Goswell's mother and Simon Scott's father. Neil Halstead, who wrote all of the album's songs, said that the music was more of an "escape" from the darkness that the band's members were going through. Goswell struggled with alcoholism in the wake of her grief before entering sobriety. "I thought it was going to be quite a dark record but once we got together as a band, I think some of that darkness lifted and some of the tunes became a bit lighter," Halstead said. tinyurl.com

Originally released in 1983. The members of Kraftwerk, particularly Ralf Hutter, were big cycling fans. This song was intended as a homage to the sport's most famous event.
