W.I.T.C.H. are a Zamrock band formed in the 1970s. Widely seen as the most popular Zambian band of the 1970s, WITCH (a backronym for "We Intend To Cause Havoc"), is headed by lead vocalist Emanuel "Jagari" Chanda. The band formed during Zambia's post-independence golden days, but by the late 1970s, economic collapse and increasing government authoritarianism saw WITCH, like most Zamrock bands, fading away. The band was revived in 2012 after reissues of their records became popular abroad. Current members: Emanyeo "Jagari" Chanda, Patrick Mwondela, Jacco Gardner, Nico Mauskoviç, Stefan Lilov, and JJ Whitefield. Check out their recent Live on KEXP Session: youtu.be

Frantz said, "Before Parliament came on that night, the audience chanted things like, “Goddamn, get off your ass and jam” and “Burn down the house! Burn down the house!” That last one stuck with me." Read about the origins of this classic song: on.wsj.com -- The music video was directed by David Byrne and was the first Talking Heads video to show the full band - their famous "Once In A Lifetime" video is just Byrne. Going out to Benedetto in San Pedro! When asked what the "underside of power" refers to, vocalist Franklin James Fisher told FactMag, "Often times we would talk about what was happening with current events because the beginning of these recording sessions when things [with Brexit] were starting to come undone. "[Our bassist] Ryan would talk about his job – he monitors human trafficking and helps refugees get settled in. He deals with the worst of human nature on a daily basis. All these conversations kind of led me to find a narrative from the perspectives of all these people who are under the heel of the powerful and really can’t do anything about it." Colin Moulding recalled to Uncut magazine March 2014: There were no Nigels at school. I wasn't bullied, but I think I had a natural empathy for people that were. 'Nigel' was my song for the bullied, I suppose." He added: "British Steel was just a bit of naughtiness. What I hadn't bargained on was the union boss later ringing me up and asking me to join the cause! I had the devil of a job to convince him it was an organisation I chose at random." www.songfacts.com
