Frontwoman Shana Cleveland says of this single, "I moved to the country a few years ago after living in cities for most of my life. Being out in the middle of nowhere makes it easy to imagine how it would be possible to leave society all together. I love how in this track some of the most unnatural elements of the arrangement (synthesizers, fuzz, effects) create an atmosphere around the instruments that ends up feeling very natural — I can hear bugs buzzing around and bird sounds in different directions."

"I know a man, he's a powerful man; He's got the people in his power In the palm of his hand. He started at the bottom and he worked his way up. Now he's never going to stop, until he reaches the top. It's the same old story, it's the same old dream. It's power man, power man, and all that it can bring." www.thekinks.info

For over two decades, Atmosphere has maintained a course of rigorous output, releasing over two dozen studio albums, EP's and collaborative side projects in as many years. In that time, the venerated duo have built a legacy out of bringing honesty, humility and vulnerability to the forefront of their music, continually challenging themselves to evolve without straying too far from their roots. At its essence, Atmosphere has been a musical shepherd, and with each new album comes a new journey as they guide generations of listeners through this thing called life. bit.ly

The UK group released two new tracks in July, “Bug Eggs” and “Tony Speaks!” Both are easygoing with the band’s signature spoken-word vocals, deadpanning weird lyrics mixed in with hard-hitting confessions like, “When I think back to some of the ways I’ve allowed myself to be treated, I cringe.” “’Bug Eggs’ is about the confidence that comes with age, fragility and sexual desire,” vocalist Florence Shaw said in a statement.: drycleaning.bandcamp.com

Although this was a big hit for Blondie in 1978, it was actually first recorded by The Nerves, who released it on their one and only EP, in 1976 - making them a no-hit wonder? The song was written by the band's guitarist Jack Lee. Fortunately it was picked up by Blondie, and backed by "Will Anything Happen?" and "Fade Away And Radiate" it reached #5 on the UK singles chart. Running to a mere 2 minutes 17 seconds, it was purely a commercial song and was Blondie's second release from the Parallel Lines album on the Chrysalis label. Jack Lee recalled in a 2007 interview with Mojo magazine that he was facing financial ruin before he received the phone call that changed his fortunes. "I remember the day vividly," he recalled. "It was a Friday. They were going to cut off our electricity at six o'clock, the phone too." When Debbie Harry rang asking Lee if she could record this song, Lee readily agreed and the rest was history. bit.ly

Cardiff post-punk band The Vega Bodegas is led by Jimmy Watkins, formerly of Future Of The Left and Strange News From Another Star, as well as co-founder of global running community, Running Punks. Watkins described how the track was inspired by two books: "At the time I was reading a book called Strangers by Rebecca Tamás, and it was changing the way I thought about the modern world. It was terrifying, but at the same time it had answers about how we could change things like capitalism and the destruction of the planet. It introduced me to panpsychism and I was fascinated by this idea that our surroundings influence how we think. "I was also reading a book called American Cosmic by D.W Pasulka. In that book she meets people who believe their great ideas have come from aliens. I used that for the lines about 'operating on a whole other level… outside on my mile high decking' and about our body parts being full of galaxies." Read more and download here: bit.ly

KEXP's Albina Carrera talks with Bomba Estereo as they take us track-by-track through the great album, 'Deja': bit.ly. “We were thinking in terms of our live shows and we thought about basing it on the end of the world,” says Mejía about the underlying concept of Deja and its evolution. “We thought about everything that was happening in the world and how everything could be rebuilt from the ashes. Then we saw what was happening—especially early in the pandemic, the images we saw around the world— and we thought, ‘Wow, this is real.’ I don’t know if it was a premonition or not, but it propelled us to find a positive side to what’s happening. We have ways to keep the world from ending. We have to take care of the elements that make life on the planet possible, you know?” bit.ly
