Seattle-based, 25-year-old Alda Agustiano goes by the ambiguous title Chong the Nomad. When asked about her moniker, Chong shares, "Yeah, it’s a pretty nerdy story. I grew up loving the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the music from that series actually inspired me to write music. There was a very minor character, who was this sort of musician, and his name was Chong. He was nomadic; a hippy. I used Chong the Nomad as a form name for a while, and then I just rolled with it. I kinda like how gender-neutral it is." bit.ly
Check out our "Apparently..." series about parents in music on KEXP's Sound & Vision podcast. In a recent episode Seattle rapper J'Von talked about his new album, 'King Cheetah', and about just being a human who’s trying to make music and keep a tiny human alive

The Barrett Martin Group shrunk to a nearly solo project over the quarantine. Drummer, percussionist, songwriter Barrett Martin spent a year living with his wife in a remote cliff house overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The setting inspired a new book, "Stillpoint: Reflections From A Year On The Cliff," and an album he recorded and produced there, Stillpoint. His fifth "Group" album since 2018, Martin wrote all the music and plays almost all the instruments: piano, vibraphone, marimba, gamelans, mbira, kalimba, steel drum, gongs, upright bass, various African, Brazilian and Cuban percussion and his drum kit. bit.ly

Event InfoFruit Juice is an Olympia-based glam pop band. "Mirke Vs The Dreamy LLC" is their new album that will be released on December 3rd. You can pre-order it now: fruitjuice.bandcamp.com
KEXP's DJ Sharlese on the band:
"Olympia’s Fruit Juice remind me so much of of Montreal with their own twist on vocal experimentation and instrumentation. They always have something fun happening in their songs – if it’s not hand claps, it’s a great beat with fun lyrics"
FUTURENOT is Jason Cressey and Peter Daniel of Seattle’s funk, soul, and jazz scene.
“Be the Change” is the first song that Cressey and Daniel wrote together. Inspired by hanging out at the park, it draws musical inspiration from the sounds, vibrations, and attitude of the Nat & Cannonball Adderley Quintet. “It’s our attempt at a jazz standard."

The album is out November 19th.
